Matthew Scudder, a down-but-not-out-detective, is shocked by the apparent suicide of Paula, a waitress at Armstrong’s, one of Scudder’s hangouts. When Paula’s sister shows up and asks Matt to investigate what she believes to be a murder, Scudder agrees to take on the case. A number of clues don’t add up to suicide, and Scudder’s investigation leads him to the dark corners of Paula’s world.

Brevity doesn’t work!
Revisado: 07-22-24
Story was far too short to be developed properly. Just as it started to get interesting, it was over!

Excellence of author’s writing

Loved the narrator, George Guidell. Will definitely look for more Audible books in which he is the narrator.

Not his best!
Revisado: 02-14-23
Pretty good but not Baldacci’s best. Too slow paced for my taste. I will read the next in the series.

Crisis Four (Unabridged)
Revisado: 07-06-05
Clive Mantle is one of the poorest readers I've ever encountered (and I've listened to hundreds of audio books). This is entirely my fault for not availing myself of Audible's "preview" feature, to listen to a segment. Failing to do so means that I have purchased a second Andy McNab novel (same reader), and I'm not at all sure I can bring myself to listen to it.
The reader (Clive Mantle) can not even approximate an American accent, and the author compounds the problem by having his American characters utter the most incredibly stilted language imaginable - filling their utterances with multiple instances of "Hey Man", and "What's Happening". Clive, don't quit your day job!
