Historia
The defining experience of Chinua Achebe's life was the Nigerian civil war, also known as the Biafran War, of 1967-1970. The conflict was infamous for its savage impact on the Biafran people, Chinua Achebe's people, many of whom were starved to death after the Nigerian government blockaded their borders. Immediately after, Achebe took refuge in an academic post in the United States, and for more than 40 years he has maintained a considered silence on the events of those terrible years. Now, decades in the making, comes a towering reckoning with one of modern Africa's most fateful events.

Great Book with One Narrator Issue
Revisado: 09-28-24
I love the book, and I really enjoyed the sound of the narrator's voice. It's absolutely worth reading or listening to. That being said, the difficult to ignore problem is that the narrator is TERRIBLE at pronouncing the names of Nigerian (and then Biafran) people and places. I was initially hopeful because the narrator had a Yoruba name, but even his pronunciation of Yoruba names is quite bad. He's also awful at pronouncing the Igbo words and phrases he read.

Captivating Stories
Revisado: 11-08-23
I loved the 1st volume, so I was excited to see this released. I've always found the stories created by player actions in EVE to be my favourite part of the game. This was the case before I ever played it, while I played it, and afterwards. It's no surprise that I enjoyed this 2nd volume even more, especially because at certain points I could say to myself "I was there".

Narration needs to be better
Revisado: 11-03-21
The narrator doesn't know how to properly pronounce Igbo names, words, and phrases. The same goes for how he spoke pidgin. It wasn't much better than if a complete stranger to Igbo and Nigeria had done the narration.

Absolutely worth it!
Revisado: 12-01-20
I love the story! The narrator did a good job overall. The only issue I had with the narration was that my expectation that Onayemi would pronounce the Yoruba names properly was not met. I only expected this because "Onayemi" is a Yoruba name.

Historia
Since 2003, this sci-fi virtual world has been ruled by player-led governments commanding tens of thousands of real people. The conflict and struggle for power between these diverse governments has led to wars, espionage, and battles fought by thousands of people from nations all over the world. There have been climactic last stands, wars for honor and revenge, and spies who caused more damage than a fleet of warships.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this, and I am looking forward to Part II of this virtual space epic. I suggest looking up a starmap of EVE Online on Google to help follow what's going on, especially if you haven't played EVE.

Narrator's failed attempt at sounding Nigerian
Revisado: 05-30-20
The story is fine. My issue is with the narration. The supposed Nigerian accents are off. The pronunciation of Igbo words and names are also completely off. If you know what it's supposed to sound like, it's difficult to listen to the parts that are supposed to sound Igbo or Nigerian.

Seldom does a book have the impact of Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow. Since it was first published in 2010, it has been cited in judicial decisions and has been adopted in campus-wide and community-wide reads; it helped inspire the creation of the Marshall Project and the new $100 million Art for Justice Fund; it has been the winner of numerous prizes, including the prestigious NAACP Image Award; and it has spent nearly 250 weeks on the New York Times best seller list.

Important and Eye Opening
Revisado: 03-03-20
Reading this book is an important part of having a more complete view of the state of human rights in USA. This piece of that often grim mosaic should absolutely not be ignored. I would recommend that any and everyone reads this.
