Historia
Hilketa is a frenetic and violent pastime where players attack each other with swords and hammers. The main goal of the game: obtain your opponent's head and carry it through the goalposts. With flesh and bone bodies, a sport like this would be impossible. But all the players are "threeps", robot-like bodies controlled by people with Haden's Syndrome, so anything goes. No one gets hurt, but the brutality is real, and the crowds love it. Until a star athlete drops dead on the playing field.

Start This Series
Revisado: 11-12-18
This series is fantastic. A great sci-fi mystery - clever, funny and engaging. Plus, Wil Wheaton could read the back of a cereal box and sound brilliant.
This is the second installment of the Lock In series. It is better than the first book.

Historia
Half-Korean, half-Japanese, Masaji Ishikawa has spent his whole life feeling like a man without a country. This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. But the reality of their new life was far from utopian.

Heartbreaking Memoir
Revisado: 11-12-18
This was a tough read. Masaji Ishikawa is half Korean and half Japanese, and after his family went back to Korea - for the promise of a better life - they quickly learned the truth of political spin. He eventually escapes, but it costs him everything. This is an important read for everyone and will remind you to respect your life, your fortune and your opportunities.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

This literary marvel was a retelling of the Trojan War and the story of Achilles. Nothing short of amazing. A beautiful love story. I couldn't wait to jump into the car each day to hear more.

If you give a moose a muffin, he will want a glass of milk. Only in this book, the moose gets on an airplane and flies to Africa where he eventually crosses paths with a helicopter pilot, pirates and a baseball player. If you loved "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," you'll love this.

Historia
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases - a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with as well as way less experience in the dating department than the average 30-year-old. It doesn't help that she has Asperger's and that French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. She decides that she needs lots of practice - with a professional - which is why she hires escort Michael Phan.

This is NOT "The Rosie Project"
Revisado: 08-19-18
Someone said that this was reminiscent of "The Rosie Project." That series was charming, insightful and believable. This book was none of those things. This was more 50 Shades of Stupid meets autism meets a 1960s Disney fairy tale which is not a winning combo.

Historia
The Potlikker Papers tells the story of food and politics in the South over the last half century. Beginning with the pivotal role of cooks in the civil rights movement, noted authority John T. Edge narrates the South's journey from racist backwater to a hotbed of American immigration. In so doing, he traces how the food of the poorest Southerners has become the signature trend of modern American haute cuisine. This is a people's history of the modern South told through the lens of food.

Provoking, Analytical and Interesting
Revisado: 08-07-18
It's a thoughtful and provoking history of Southern foodways. The book highlights the beginnings of the South's culinary traditions, its evolution and its role in history and politics.
While most authors aren't performers, John T. Edge's reading is exactly how the book should be heard.

Ivan is a 17-year-old orphan in Belarus, and he lives in a home for kids affected by the 1986 accident at Chernobyl. While Ivan is severely deformed, he is brilliant, insightful, rude and sarcastic - and then he falls in love. This funny, dysfunctional, brilliant, beautiful coming-of-age story is both heart-breaking and heartwarming. Stop whatever you are doing right now and order this book. Trust me.

Who approved this sound editing?
Revisado: 05-20-15
What did you like best about Memory Man? What did you like least?
Truthfully, I'm only 1/4 of the way through, but the audio is so incredibly distracting. It's as of the reader, who is a great reader, recorded the abridged version first - then the sound editor went back and inserted the missing lines.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator is fine. It's the sound editing that is horrid. I am in disbelief that someone found this recording acceptable enough to approve.
