Historia
The night Donald Trump won the presidency, our author Joel Stein, Thurber Prize finalist and former staff writer for Time Magazine, instantly knew why. The main reason wasn't economic anxiety or racism. It was that he was anti-elitist. Hillary Clinton represented Wall Street, academics, policy papers, Davos, international treaties and the people who think they're better than you. People like Joel Stein. Trump represented something far more appealing, which was beating up people like Joel Stein.

A wake up call for the intelligent.
Revisado: 11-07-19
High IQ? Successful? Annoyed by stupid people? If you said yes to all three, this is a book that will have you nodding, laughing, and then groaning at how much you find yourself agreeing with John Stein's self assessment of how and why smart people are failing at elevating American society. It's a wake up call for the intelligent or as Stein calls them "the elite" who are in the "the loop." Start the discussion on how to connect society issues but using this book to first become self aware of how you're part of the problem (insert groan here). Ugh, Stein is right.

Obvious ideas told in a humorous way
Revisado: 08-22-18
This book would be perfect for someone just out of college who loves hitting the snooze button and never has made better than a 78 on an exam, but suddenly finds themselves in the middle of corporate America and realizes they need to get their shit together. Sarah Knight tries to speak to a diverse crowd from multiple angles, but truthfully it's lost on anyone that shows up on time, pays their bills, and feels stressed out or a bit lost in life. There is a big element lacking in this book and that's chapter is called "So you have your shit somewhat together - now what?" She misses the boat on instructing readers how to figure out their passion and run with it. Overall it's a cute book of obvious ideas told in a humorous way, but I'd barrow it from a friend and save your cash. Plus, if you do it that way, you can tell the author that you already have your financial shit together and you can check off 'saving money' on Sarah Knight's To Do list.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

A clever outlook and interesting viewpoint
Revisado: 07-09-18
Get ready to smirk and nod, because Mark Manson will bring entertainment to your ears in this book based on caring less about the things that don't really matter in life. You'll easily identify at least one person in your life that you know of who cares way too much about all the wrong things and then re-evaluate your own perspective on what matters to you. A fun listen.

Compelling and enlightening
Revisado: 07-09-18
Beyond his adorable charm and smart intellect is a deep story of politics, race, and overcoming odds. Trevor Noah's childhood stories are remarkable and cast a strong light on how his views have been shaped by his experiences. We could all take a lesson from his experiences and widen our viewpoints.

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Revisado: 07-09-18
Elizabeth Gilbert widens the definition of creativity and challenges readers to just do something, who cares if it fails. A great reminder that getting off the couch and just enjoying trying whatever you feel drawn to try is pretty freaking cool in itself. Enjoyable read and a nice reminder that no one needs to win an award in order to just enjoy your hobbies and life.

Audie Award, Humor, 2016. In Furiously Happy, number-one New York Times best-selling author Jenny Lawson explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. But terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.

I love this author but don't expect an actual novel here. It's basically a collection of short essays. Just like their author; some make sense and some don't. And you can't dislike her as a person - she's great, but the book is only okay.
