Historia
Conan the Barbarian, the world’s most famous fantasy hero, returns in an all-new novel tied directly to the famous works by his legendary creator, Robert E. Howard. Set early in his life, Conan has left his northern homeland to cut a bloody swath across the legendary Hyborian Age. A mercenary, a soldier, a thief, and a pirate, he faces conquering armies, malicious sorcerers, and monstrous creatures—against which he wields only the sword held in his powerful grasp.

Unnecessary
Revisado: 02-24-25
Conan fights more random wild animals than men in this bland prequel to Red Nails. This doesn't feel like a well thought out story that has a real arc, this feels more like a beginner DM having a too straight-forward campaign that he's trying to spice up with some random side quests. The ending (and transition to Red Nails) is also pretty jarring. Speaking of which, while Red Nails isn't spectacular, it's much more interesting than this prequel that wasn't really even needed. City Of The Dead was much better.
The narrator does an okay job, I liked his Conan growl especially. The voice he uses for the female characters (and almost all the males who are smaller than Conan) gets irritating pretty fast though.

Book 1: Albion Lost: For centuries, the Daegon waited. They plotted. And now they are ready to strike. The core worlds of settled space enjoy a tenuous peace, unaware and ill prepared for the threat building beyond the furthest reaches of humanity. The star kingdom of Albion stands as a shining light of justice and mercy in a harsh galaxy, and they will be the first to suffer the Daegon's fury. Book 2: The Long March: Commodore Thomas Gage and his fleet, safeguarding the last of the Albion Royal Family, are on the run.

Galactica, anyone?
Revisado: 01-20-25
The story setting has a lot in common with Battlestar Galactica, but it's not a total ripoff, more like an homage or tribute to it. The spacefaring nations and their characteristics are pretty stereotypical and maybe a bit too on-the-nose, but as the story gets going it bothered me less.
The Daegon are perhaps a bit too mwahahaha-evil to be completely believable, but their arrogance makes the listener/reader really angry and wanting to see them get their comeuppance, a mark of good writing.
I know a guy who has a solid idea about what kind of scifi he chooses to use his time on: for him, scifi and child characters are not compatible. After Prince Aidan (Aiden?) I must agree with him. Just insufferable any time he says something, I wondered how Gage didn't just throw him into cryo storage to keep him quiet. That's not a criticism of the writing mind you, I find Aidan to be a really realistic child character... annoying.

Historia
In this sequel to Mechanical Failure, Captain Rogers, despite his best attempts to do otherwise, has become the acting admiral of the 331st Meridan fleet. His first task: worrying. A lot. The rival Thelicosan fleet, under the influence of bad intelligence, a forbidden romance, and a communication officer with an eardrum injury, is about to break a 200-year-old nonaggression pact. They have offered a vague, easily misinterpreted message: "We're invading." Rogers isn't sure, but he thinks that's probably bad.

[EXPLETIVE] brilliant

As funny and witty as the first one, this series is fast becoming one of my favorites. Joe Zieja also is a great narrator, giving a great prrformance. Deet might be my favorite character.
Also, if they ever turn these into movies, Jack Quaid should play Rogers. He'd be the perfect fit.

A great companion for the first season of the tv series
Revisado: 10-28-24
I loved this almost as much as I loved the tv show. Certainly brought a bright shining light into this otherwise dark autumn. I hope the crew continues to make these.
