More than merely strong-held opinions, Dana offers fact after fact, detailed case after detailed case, and then draws her conclusions. Her tone sometimes expresses her passion about this subject, but both sides seem to be very passionate about it. Her arguments are logical and well-thought-out, and she has clearly done her homework. The reason she even got a gun to begin with was to protect her family who had been threatened by a disgruntled stalker. He had no idea what he would stir up by threatening her children, but she has become a strong voice in the 2A debate. She has also done an ad for the NRA entitled "Moms like me." She is armed with facts and, yes, an assault rifle. I have even more respect for her after listening to this book. No matter which side of this issue you fall on, this would be a worthwhile read.

This work of faction (Fiction based on facts) is positively Orwellian in it's prediction of where our country is potentially heading. The facts used in the story and any creative license taken with them are listed at the end of the book. This could be our country in five years (or less). In keeping with our founders ideology, Benjamin Franklin said that those who would sacrifice freedom for security do not deserve either one. Indeed.

On the edge of my seat!

Brad Thor never fails to take his readers on a thrill ride. This book is no exception. I'm always impressed by the accuracy of his research. Indeed, sometimes his stories preceded news headlines. This book, like his previous books, is as intelligently written as it is fast-paced. The narration is well done, but I gave it 4 stars because I don't think he does justice to the women's voices. They all sound like Lauren Bacall. Beyond that, five stars all the way!

A call to stop the insanity

While I disagree with Kirsten Powers on many political issues, I'm always interested to hear what she has to say as I find her views reasonable and well-thought-out. She is proof to me that I can disagree with someone and still respect them greatly. The topic of this book is about those on the far left who do not espouse that view. It gives example after example of how the extremists on the left try to quash free speech for those with whom they disagree. (If I have one criticism of the book, it is that I felt inundated with the amount of data. This book requires no bibliography as she cites each case in excruciating detail. But she is, after all, a journalist. I guess better to err on the side of too much supporting material.)

She does an outstanding job of making the case that free speech is being crushed under the weight of political correctness and the extreme Left's agenda. Many of us see our First Amendment rights being trampled, but feel all but powerless to do anything. Ms. Powers is in a unique position to sound the call to sanity.

I would recommend this book to those on the right, who need to know that all those on the left are not represented by the vocal minority, and I would recommend it to any on the left who realize that when free speech is denied to one group, all suffer. You may be next.

To those for whom faith means something, I would simply say, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall inherit the Earth."

Words of wisdom and humor from a true class act

Dana Perino is one of my favorite media personalities. I like her balanced, thoughtful approach to politics and current events. If only everyone in the media handled themselves with the poise and dignity that she displays I would have a vastly greater respect for the media. This book contains some wonderful stories from her life as well as some insights and advice for those who follow after. Her style is very casual, as if you were chatting over lunch. It is part biography, part life lessons learned, and part letting us in on the inside scoop that has been her life and career. It was, as I imagine lunch with her would be, time well spent.

Not what it says...

I've become a fan of Ms. Montgomery's programs, but this one is not really a speed reading hypnosis package. It contains five chapters. The first is an explanation of how speed reading works, and some timed exercises to get you started. The second is some random music that, while entertaining, contains no narration or guided imagery at all. I'm still not sure why it's there. Then the next chapter explains binaural beat frequency theory, followed by the last two chapters which are actaully her Personal Confidence Hypnosis System. Now I have to say here that I bought the Personal Confidence program separately first, and it changed my life. But I don't see how that relates to speed reading. I think perhaps there was an error in editing, because there are NO hypnosis programs in this package that relate directly to speed reading. I would recommend the Mega Mind Power system that is also offered here at Audible instead, because it does contain all the explanatory material given in this package along with two speed reading hypnosis programs, plus several other great programs like Power Learning and Focus and Concentration. You get about four times the information for about twice the price. There are some issues with the editing of that program as well (see my review of it), but overall it is a great program and well worth the time and money.

The good, the bad, and the ugly...

Well actually just the good and the bad - nothing truly horrendous. My complaints are not with the content of the program, but with the production. At first I thought it was just a convoluted mess. There are several inroductions to the concept of hypnosis, but the main introduction to the work appears to be in chapter 7 - or 9 - take your pick. I finally realized this is not one work, but a compilation of different self-help hypnosis programs, and not in any particular order. Some simple things could make this much more user-friendly: include a PDF Table of Contents with the download, break the chapters into topical subjects, and put breaks at the beginning of each hypnosis session so they're easier to access on your iPod. Also, in chapters 2 and 6, she says before the second hypnosis session that you'll be instructed to awake feeling refreshed, but you are actually instructed to go to sleep. Basically, the form is introduction to topic, morning session where you awaken refreshed, then bedtime session where you go to sleep. Then there is just some music randomly thrown in here and there that I can't use to study by because it puts me to sleep. Not sure of its purpose. {:-/ Lastly, she directs the listener to web pages for more information on certain topics. The problem - those pages apparently aren't there anymore.

Okay, that was the bad. Now to the good, which I must say even after all that still FAR OUTWEIGHS the bad. I dare say that if Ms. Montgomery is "eating her own cooking" so to speak, she is likely the most "together" person on the planet! Anyone who masters all these modules would be a mental and emotional powerhouse. I haven't finished but one, as it takes 21 days to get the most from each one. But I'm already seeing some pretty amazing changes for the better. My original concern about opening my subconscious up to such suggestions has been laid to rest. I listen to each module before I allow myself to relax and use it, and I've found nothing that concerns me. Of course, I would recomend that you do the same, as your beliefs may differ from mine.

The changes I've seen in myself have convinced me. Even my dreams (my subconscious communicating with me) reflect a more confident, self-assured and peaceful person who is not afraid to tackle new situations. I can't wait to start the Enhanced Memory and Speed Reading sections! All said, if the producers tweak this and clean it up a bit (say, version 2.0), then I couldn't possibly give it any higher marks! I highly recommend it. The benefits received have definitely been worth the time, money, and confusion!

Amazing insight into how our brains work.

Using clear, concise language, the author uses a simple metaphor to explain a very complex subject. Using day-to-day examples, he explains why we hit some of the roadblocks or experience some of the reactions we do, and then offers an alternative scenario that might have produced better results in our interactions. I have listened to this book twice, and find myself referring to his stage metaphor often in my thought process. Whether you are trying to increase your productivity at work, trying to improve relationships, or just curious about how our brains process information, this book is a winner!

WOW!!

This book changed my whole way of thinking about networking from "I guess I have to do this to grow my business" to "Hey, I can do that!" He gives very practical, applicable tips, how to handle worst-case scenarios, and detailed ideas for making the most out of networking opportunities. For those of us who hate "working a room," (and who doesn't) this is a radically different concept that takes the pressure off. Worth the money and time spent! (In fact, I've listened to it several times!)

I hesitate to write this review as I have not finished the book. I don't know that I will be able to finish the book; the narration is so bad it is distracting and I honestly couldn't tell you whether the message of the book is good because I can't concentrate on it. I hate to say that, because it sounds terrible. But this is one book I wish I had not gotten on Audible! I may try to get a copy and read it. I'm sure the gentleman who narrated it has many talents, but narration IS NOT among them. His cadence reminds me of Thurston Howell III on Gilligan's Island. Oh well...
