Turn of the Screw
Revisado: 11-23-16
Emma Thompson did a wonderful job, the sound effects and music added a great deal to the narration, I'm not fond of this genre, but if you like ghost stories, horror, this is right up your alley.

I hadn't read this book in years. It was still very relevant to today's world. So much hate and prejudice in our world. I also found the movie on Netflix. Both the book and the movie are worth your time.

A woman's got to make a living!
Revisado: 03-16-16
This novel is based on DuMauriers great grandmothers life. She was very good at getting what she wanted by nanipulation especially getting men under her spell. She lived by her wits. Women were at the mercy of men at this time. They couldn't have careers. They had to rely on their family or marry into money. An interesting read.

Somewhat like A Christmas Story. Charles Dickens writes very bleak stories. Not a bedtime story. Thank you audible for the gift.

The story was very good, but..
I hadn't read any of Nora Roberts books in ab very long time. I don't remember her using vulgar language and sexual situations like there were in this novel. Maybe its because that sort of thing sells these days. I won't be purchasing any of them unless it's her earlier books.

Historia
The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

Another great story from Grisham!
Revisado: 03-05-15
Once more Grisham uses his writing to educate us about an issue that is swept under the rug. Strip mining and black lung disease suffered by miners. I can see this one being made into a great movie.

Historia
Evelyn Waugh's most celebrated work is a memory drama about the intense entanglement of the narrator, Charles Ryder, with a great Anglo-Catholic family. Written during World War II, the story mourns the passing of the aristocratic world Waugh knew in his youth and vividly recalls the sensuous pleasures denied him by wartime austerities; in so doing it also provides a profound study of the conflict between the demands of religion and the desires of the flesh.
