The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

Can't finish...
Revisado: 03-27-25
I purchased this book because a) I read couple books by this author and thought they were decent. b) the ratings. c) this book was followed by one of my favorite authors, Ariel Anderson. Unfortunately, about 6 or 7 chapters in, I can't finish and had to return the book. Don't get me wrong, I love dark and suspense romance, and I'm no prude. But this book isn't for me. Maybe I'm the minority because I can't comprehend how anyone gets off by a stalker who sodomize your private with a weapon. I'm also confused that the male protagonist was supposed to be a vigilante hero, who hunts and kills child traffickers and pedophiles and yet stalks a woman and threaten to kill those around her if she disobeyed his twisted possessiveness. He only saw the FMC poster at a book signing event as she was an author and decided to make her his. Not to get to know her or kill her but to toy with her...Sorry, it didn't make sense to me.
The duet performance, on the other hand, was exceptional. I love Teddy Hamilton and Michelle Sparks. Other than that, it's not for me.

Historia
Once upon a cold, dark night, a Russian killer stole me from an alley. I’m dangerous, but he is lethal. I escaped once. He won’t let me do it twice. The revenge is his. The betrayal is mine. But so are the lies to protect the ones I love. We’re cut from the same twisted cloth. Both merciless. Both damaged. In his embrace, I find hell and heaven, his cruelly tender touch destroying and uplifting me at once. They say a cat has nine lives, but an assassin has just one. And Yan Ivanov now owns mine.

You be the judge
Revisado: 09-09-24
I've been struggling whether or not to write this one. My goal here is not to discourage reader but rather to voice my opinion. I've read hundreds of books from many different genres...from thriller to suspense romance but never romance or dark romance until recently. Although, I find the later two quite entertaining and addicting because some books are quite good and stimulating. However, I find this particular book a bit hard to absorb. The premise started out quite intriguing up to the point of kidnapping. This is where I couldn't fathom why any woman would endure such predicament. I'm no prude by any means and maybe I'm the minority here. How anyone finds being kidnapped, sexually abused and manipulated a turn on or romantic is beyond my comprehension. The authors trying to portray that the sex was consent, which I beg the differ. When you're kidnapped, what choice do you have but to go along? The main female character not only was kidnapped but also has a tracker surgically implanted in the back of her neck...and to top it off, the antihero had a Dr. injected some form of contraceptive while she was unconscious with no way to consent. Really? so he can have his way with her without getting her pregnant. Again, the authors tried to imply that he's doing her a favor. The guy appears to be more like a villain than hero as he possesses all the characters of sociopath. Although the supposed 'heroine' was supposed to be a badass assassin but yet so weak and submissive. Then somehow fell in love with this sociopath. It's called Stockholm syndrome. I'm half way in the book and just couldn't seem to bring myself to finish it. I've never had any such strong feeling about a book before until now. I get it that this is fictional, and I read to escape reality as I do enjoy a fantasy every now and then. I guess I'm just trying understand whether the majority fantasize this sort of romance, or I'm just the minority.

Historia
From the start, Kerry Bishop anticipated danger: She expected unimaginable fear. In a terrifying race to save nine children, she prepared for the fight of her life. But she wasn’t prepared for a passion almost as dangerous as the mission she had undertaken. At the first, Linc O’Neil appeared to be exactly the kind of man Kerry needed: strong, ruthless and definitely too drunk to care about helping her steal a truck to get past the guards.

Disappointed
Revisado: 09-09-24
Never have I ever been so disappointed with SB. I've been a huge fan of hers, and I've read almost all of her books and enjoyed most of the stories written by this author. Some are better than others but never this grotesque. Most of her books are either romance or suspense romance. The premise of most stories usually has a heroine and a hero, who dislike each other from the get go but then later grew attraction toward one another in one way or another. The male protagonist is mostly war hero or former soldier with PTSD/baggage. The female main character is either tough and sexy or pretty and sophisticated lady like. Of course, there's always sex scene and dirty pillow talk but nothing that I couldn't handle or would deter me from reading her books until now. As I mentioned, I'm a huge fan and have read many books in paperbacks by SB. I thought I read all of her older books, but I must have missed this one and figured I try my first audible by this author since my discovery of audible books. To my disbelieve and even shock, that SB actually wrote this book. The story was quite suspenseful and quite adventurous and entertaining until the last hour of the book. I couldn't bring myself to finish it because I was so upset and disgusted. I'm not sure if the author's intention to make the sexual encounter between the main characters as romantic. However, the way the male protagonist came on to the female seemed almost like sexual assault or even rape. What made me really upset was the female characters seemed to accept it. She's either desperate for sex or too stupid.
Of course, this is just my opinion and point of view, and I called it as I see it. Some other readers/listeners may disagree but to each their own. This book is a definite two thumbs down for me. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I would read her future books as I find this one quite upsetting.

Historia
According to the FBI, I was considered a serial murderer after three kills. What do they call me after fifty-two? They call me the Silencer. One final bullet would have been all it took to stop me from taking another soul, and I would have been doing Meridian City a service by pulling that trigger. An angel crying for help stopped me, and that night, I took three lives for her. Then three turned into eight. Then eight turned into twenty. Twenty turned into twenty-one. Twenty-one turned into twenty-three.

Heart Wrenching Love Story
Revisado: 08-15-24
I rarely write reviews. In fact, this is probably the second review I'd ever written about a book. Also this is the first book I listened by this author. But WOW...! It is by far the best book hands down, and I've read hundreds. An exceptional story and well plotted. A masterpiece with phenomenal performance +++. So much angst and heartache yet so beautifully written. I'd die happy to experience such unconditional love. Ariel, thank you for crafting such amazing tale. Please don't stop writing.

Crazy Plot
Revisado: 10-23-20
Hadn't read anything this crazy. Not sure if it's the author's intention, but if so, he succeeded in making you disliked the main character 'cause she's crazy. The story is well written and good narrator. I can visualise scene by scene as if I was watching a movie. Could be made into a film or something. the reason I gave four stars 'cause I didn't like the ending. It just seemed unfair.
