Historia
Roots is a groundbreaking story of history and family that spanned continents and touched generations. One of the most important books and television series ever to appear, Roots galvanized the nation and created an extraordinary political, racial, social, and cultural dialogue that hadn’t been seen since the publication of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The book sold more than one million copies in the first year, and the miniseries was watched by an astonishing 130 million people. It also won both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.

Incredible
Revisado: 04-29-25
The author, Alex Haley is a very sensitive writer. He brought his characters to life and allowed his audience to be captivated by every twist and turn in the saga, which is Roots; from the very beginning to the wonderfully personalized ending. The narration was incredibly emotional as the voice of each person depicted was raw and rich without being overacted. Each story was incredibly woven into the tapestry of this family. I must read for anyone who is interested in the slave trade and the horrific consequences thereafter that serve as a reminder of the cruelty of the human condition, but also the hope for the future through shared narratives allowing for growth and change. Slavery is a horrible stain on America. Voices of the past can change hearts by ripping off the shroud of racism and its insidiously callous nature through vulnerability, education, and understanding of one another.

Can’t get past the bad narration

Horrific narration
Revisado: 02-08-25
Besides the horrific narration, the story is read way too fast. Also, the voice of the narrator is trying more to be creepy, then relaxing. I didn’t like it at all, and I found it horrible to listen to and it only agitated me and didn’t help me to get to sleep.
