Historia
Welcome, once again, to the charming byways of Avonlea and its people, as created by one of Canada's most beloved authors. In this volume of heartwarming tales, a Persian cat plays an amazing role in a marriage proposal, a young girl risks losing her mother in her quest to find her father, and a foolish lie threatens to make an unattached woman the town's laughingstock. These 15 short stories together present a piquant and fascinating picture of life in the villages and country surrounding Avonlea.

Not Worth Listening
Revisado: 01-12-25
Overall, the book does not age well. Chapter 11 features child grooming and the last chapter is pretty racist. I will still to the Anne of GG series.

Historia
Sallie Kincaid is the daughter of the biggest man in a small town, the charismatic Duke Kincaid. Born at the turn of the 20th century into a life of comfort and privilege, Sallie remembers little about her mother who died in a violent argument with the Duke. By the time she is just eight years old, the Duke has remarried and had a son, Eddie. While Sallie is her father’s daughter, sharp-witted and resourceful, Eddie is his mother’s son, timid and cerebral. When Sallie tries to teach young Eddie to be more like their father, her daredevil coaching leads to an accident, and Sallie is cast out.

Twists and Turns Everywhere!

I love that this book felt like a classic Jeanette Walls featuring a girl with a strong sense of self, but there was a little more mystery to it! I loved it! I love all her books.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Very Three Dimensional
Revisado: 01-05-25
Social commentary, character development, plot without reply on it to hold the story up. I was hooked from the first sentence. Looking forward to listening to her other books.
