Historia
When he was first torn from his Earthly home, Victor Sandoval was as good as dead, alone and powerless in a reality where kills equal skills and losing a fight means losing your life. But he's much more than who he used to be. Now a warrior of near-legendary status and strength, Victor is leading his very own army into the Untamed Marches, where countless hordes of horrors await. This means more Energy and treasure for him and his allies when they go up against a slew of undead, reavers, and good old-fashioned bloody vampires.

Getting teenage romance cringy
Revisado: 04-24-25
A solid baseline story but the "aaarrrgggh me monster bash things in all fights" now is getting repetitive and the teenage romance level girl boy kissy kissy giggle giggle has now shifted from cringe to annoying to now making me fast forward through so many sections I am looking for something else to read. These child like additions don't add to the story and as many characters are ment to be 100+ yrs old the teenage emotions make me ill.
The most shallow of personal relationships especially between the main group makes you care little when one woman has a teenage storm off moment or the main character reeeally really likes holding hands ... again
The endless "me go bash and me win" is old and has not progressed but we do get plenty of shallow strong women and the MC having little control of his emotions makes it feel suddenly Youth Novel level.
I'm not able to finish this book as I fail to care, know what's coming and can't get over the endless cringe romance - disappointed with the direction and I VAN put it down.

A rad tale
Revisado: 06-15-24
well, what to say ..... absolutely fantastic series and a unique author.
More so in this book,is although U may guess out a part, the tale keeps you wrapped around the author's finger .... you'll feel heartbrake, anger and frustration as characters you have grown to adore live, love, grow and yes maybe die.
You'll see mistakes spiral out of control, success lost and crazy plans succeed or just plain fail. I never felt in this book anything or anyone was guaranteed. The last half of the book (and it's a long one) twisted and turned and there where plots within plots within plots and yes sometimes you got the idea what would happen but had no idea how it could until a piece dropped into place,
I laughed out loud a lot and you know exactly whom I'm talking about and yes I was unexpectedly devistated a few times.
The MC was fantastic and as you listened you could hear the nuances of accents that came from different 'areas' in the solar system - although as an Aussie someone uses some particular turns of phase slightly unique and the accent was a touch of the bad Aussie accent that tweeks an Aussies ear with a cringe hahaha but I can't be 100% sure
Overall deeply enjoyable and RECOMMEND and a nice and realistic ending - not all puppy dogs and Fairy floss at the end
I see there are 2 more follow on books but after 60 odd hours I think I will come back to them not to burn out or make it stale.
But will always remember the howlers with a grin!!!

Space exploration, BadAssery and adventure
Revisado: 06-09-24
Absolutely great book/listen!
Mix up space exploration, discoveries, adventure with a few shootouts and the development of a bunch of great and interesting characters and mysterious first contact and you have this story. Add the smallest and descreate tease of a past series/universe (possibly missed totally if I hadn't just read several of the series) makes this a refreshing change to the mil SciFi and space opera genre. Touches of the litRPG style of the authors writing style is no to much or 'in your face's but it's lucky as I love it AND the whole space explorer / new frontiers feel.
This book is focused on how the crew get to be join the explorers guild, repair the ship, fit it out and start new careers as explorers, it's full of humour and also veteran and ex military ethos/conduct with associated one liners those that have served will relate to - but not too much
Highly recommended to join the adventures of a crew, there ship and wide eyed exploration of the unknown parts of the galaxy.
Can't wait to next book in series!!!

Rezkin is an elite warrior who aims to restore order in Ashai after Caydean's attack on the King's Tournament transformed former allies and trading partners into enemies. With no army and only a ragtag group of refugees, Rezkin must wrest control of the kingdom from the mad and powerful usurper, who seems bent on destruction, and this may not be the biggest challenge. If he fails, the kingdom will be ripped apart, and Rezkin will have violated Rule 1 - to protect and honor his friends.

Certain Annoying Characters
Revisado: 06-05-24
Offf the bat, loved the story and it's continuation and look forward to the next ....
BUT please stop the whining moronic Frisha .... every single time I hear the narrator start her voice I just want to stab a pencil in my eye - in 100s and 100s of books read and listened to I have never encountered a more annoying complaining naive and story/engagement breaking character.
She opens her whining mouth and I check out and I struggle to "get into" the story again ..... she is just that bad, I also have read reviews of the next book that says she and Tironen (another character I wish gets an arrow through his head) are both worse - at this moment I'm not sure I want to listen to the next as she is THAT grating.
I enjoy the BadAssery but there have been many expansions in the story but there still remains so many blanks and unanswered things at the end of book 3 you are feeling the same as end of book 2 - yes cool stuff done and found but what about the mysteries still mysteries after nearly 60hrs of story?
Narration is good and there are many funny moments and characters developing really well and you can't wait to learn more and see them grow ..... then whining Frisha opens her gob and you punch self in face.

Historia
After more than 20 years in special operations, USMC Gunnery Sergeant Wolf Mathison wasn’t looking forward to retirement when—implanted with an experimental artificial intelligence—he deployed on his last mission with a platoon of Marine Raiders being sent to the Jovian moon Europa. The USS Jefferson was destroyed en route, though, and only Mathison and three other marines survived. Trapped in stasis, they were hurled into the outer reaches of the solar system, where they wouldn’t be found for hundreds of years.

Builds up and then keeps going
Revisado: 05-26-24
At first the 2 arcs seem disconnected by time and location and it's a little hard to link them but then the stories parallel, in time at least, and 2 great storylines come together as things heat up and you discover you love the characters, there dynamics and faithful retelling of personnel in the military AND winding in SciFi....
Loved the book and couldn't stop listening and have the next one already and know I can't wait to press play on Vol 2 - lazy days ahead!
The main characters POV is engaging and feels real and you learn throughout the book bit by bit about them and who they are as well as small parts of the main 'space opera' story BUUUUT not too much too quickly with every question answered another pops up - makes U want more.
A great topical premise on how the galaxy is how it is, although at times the clear political side just came across a little clumsy - but I feel he don't beat you over the head too much aa you learn the dystopian future post AI, collectivism and FTL is believable to how the galaxy 'got here' and emergence of an ancient threat you just want to learn more about, but you only have pieces is really enjoyable.
Recommended and off to listen to the next one

Not 'as advertised'
Revisado: 04-06-24
Although good SciFi stories and they did, in general, have Mechs - it wasn't the fighting, stomping big ass Mechs doing battles across the galaxy from the general story description.
It is more a deep sci-fi / horror tech thriller group of short stories, good if you wanted that less so if you just wanted the cool mech stuff.

50 hrs thru and I can't go on
Revisado: 11-16-23
I tried to keep going but the main character is just not likeable as a pathetic complaining baby locked in a adolescent body.
every scrape of story progresses is soooop painful full of so many names and places and dam songs ..... I just gave up trying so hard to get thru the story.
You may like a slow story but the read time of 30plis hours per book ..... half way thru I wanted to leap out a window in boredom

14hrs in .... trying to like the main character
Revisado: 11-05-23
I am 14 hrs in and grinding thru hoping the immature, stupid, weak of will, complaining and self centred main character 'grows' some but still there is nothing good to latch on to - as he, the whining, coddled, and annoying scullery baby is endlessly acting like a petulant adolescent with no redeeming traits ..... yet still.
Endlessly self-pitying, petulant and his obtuseness has made me make this 'part' review - I will struggle on with the hope some more answers and development comes over the next 17 dam hours of the narration and I will update this comment.
Also too many lies and hidden mysteries held between seemingly important characters that make no inroads on bonds between them means you don't feel a bond or 'band of heros'. building just passing acquaintances passing thru the MC pathetic tale. At this stage I have no idea if story is ment to be solo MC or a group or an epic scale of multiple interlinked characters.... and my interest to wanting to find out is driven by a truly dislikable MC 14hrs in..... and that's a dam long listening time to be feeling such.
I have read comments saying 'stick it thru' but it's hard when the MC is dislikable and you think he wouldn't be missed if he just curled up and kept crying and died whining under a tree ..... here's to struggling on.
I've never made a half way (ish) comment but I think it's a good indication of where I'm at halfway in book 1 .... so listeners beware.
Onwards I go .....

Just do it ... great book
Revisado: 10-09-23
I was apprehensive to grab it, best decision with endless laughs!
I am sensitive to woke or politics but the story setting was for 2020 and it was 'just part' of the setting and I never noticed anything woke or political that poked into the narrative.
I was endlessly laughing at the realistic banter between the characters who seemed exactly like a bunch of my friends
Just brilliant and a great refreshing listen!
