Tragic and beautiful
Revisado: 05-15-22
Gently told and realistic in portrayal of trauma, this book brings the tragedy of Holocaust to the emotional level. The story of a single person makes it posssible to relate and understand the complicated effects of this kind of tragedy on one's life. Such a painfully touching story to hear after reading the memoirs of Rudolf Höss.

Historia
We hear the terms trauma and PTSD more and more. Yet many people still believe that trauma can only result from experiences that are particularly extreme. But trauma is an emotional response that can stem from a wide variety of upsetting experiences, leaving us feeling anxious, weighed down by negative emotions or memories, or feeling like we lack security.

A Healing Listen
Revisado: 10-19-21
I’m a long-time viewer of Kati’s YouTube channel, and this book is the such a validating, compassionage and healing deep dive into trauma. The harder-to-listen descriptions are balanced by people’s stories and helpful insights, which helped me stay hopeful and focused. I would recommend this book to everyone - to those of us having a rough time, who want to support their loved ones, and who want to understand just how wonderfully adaptive our brains are.

Historia
In Putin's People, former Moscow correspondent and investigative journalist Catherine Belton tells the untold story of the rise of Vladimir Putin and the small group of KGB men surrounding him. Delving deep into the workings of Putin's Kremlin, Belton accesses key inside players to reveal how Putin replaced the free-wheeling tycoons of the Yeltsin era with a new generation of loyal oligarchs who in turn subverted their country's economy and legal system and expanded its influence in the West.

Basic knowledge for everyone
Revisado: 08-27-21
Clear explanation of the ”Russian intelligence interfering in *” cases and what is wrong with the regime, with witty descriptions for characters whose names may be unfamiliar or hard to remember. As a Russian who grew up abroad, I wish this was fiction that did not affect ordinary Russians’ lives (most of whom are quite disgusted by these dealings.)

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Not a line wasted
Revisado: 05-02-21
Some thrillers are rather obvious, with love stories and dialogue and elaborate character descriptions making up for the simplicity of the story. Not this one. In fact, sometimes the action was so fast paced I would’ve put a paperback down and stared into the distance to catch up. I listened to the whole thing start to finish.
Needless to say, I’d recommend this to anyone for any reason: the flow of storytelling or the thrill, the atmosphere or the observations on people and their actions. Even if you don’t like crime or fiction or gruesome people, you’ve got to listen to this.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

A beautiful story, more so for its contradictions
Revisado: 03-22-21
The narration could not be more lively, accurate and passionate; it brought new colors to the novel I fell in love with the first time I read it. My views of Mr. Rochester and other characters have changed from those of preteen’s, but I nevertheless delighted in hearing it again.

What a happy little accident it was to stumble upon this book! The perfect feel-good story, and the narrators both do a wonderful job giving a voice to the characters! Just be careful, your cheeks might twitch too from smiling <3
