Historia
In the summer of 2016, a divisive presidential election was underway, and a new breed of right-wing rage was on the rise. Emily Witt, who would soon publish her first book on sex in the digital age, had recently quit antidepressants for a more expansive world of psychedelic experimentation. From her apartment in Brooklyn, she began to catch glimpses of the clandestine nightlife scene thrumming around her.

Under the rave blanket
Revisado: 11-26-24
The only book which accurately depicts the after hours deep Brooklyn scene. From the characters, types of drug use, and emotions which arise. And what/why people are attracted to it. Riveting journey from pre pandemic dance parties, to pandemic, race riots, election, and this woman’s journey through those years also dealing with age and relationships. Highly recommend

I find this entire series to be so much fun to read. Each book is a bit more ridiculous than the last but entertaining nonetheless

Historia
The contemporary art market is an international juggernaut, throwing off multimillion-dollar deals as wealthy buyers move from fair to fair, auction to auction, party to glittering party. But none of it would happen without the dealers - the tastemakers who back emerging artists and steer them to success, often to see them picked off by a rival. Dealers operate within a private world of handshake agreements, negotiating for the highest commissions. Michael Shnayerson, a longtime contributing editor to Vanity Fair, writes the first-ever definitive history of their activities.

I didn’t want to put this book down. It defines and explains the contemporary art market. The key players, and how they’ve established and will potentially maintain or loose their positions. A great book for someone who knows nothing about the contemporary art world or for someone who is knowledgeable and a part of it for years. Highly recommend

Good fun

I loved the first book in the series. It was funny, witty, and utterly ridiculous. This second try is a worse take on the first book. It’s still entertaining and passes the time, but certainly not book one. I’d still happily read it again.
