Historia
In January 1956, a tragic story flooded headlines around the world. Five men, spurred by a passion to share the good news of Jesus Christ, ventured deep into the jungles of Ecuador. Their goal: to make contact with an isolated tribe whose previous response to the outside world had been to attack all strangers. Through Gates of Splendor, the story of Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, and Jim Elliot, was first recorded in 1956 by Jim's widow, Elisabeth.

An amazing account that I’ve read other books about. Hearing things directly from the wives adds so much. Very inspiring & examples of how to live well.

But barely have corks been popped and parlour games played when a mysterious crime comes to light.

Terribly simple writing, poorly developed characters & the story was also simple & boring. This is the only negative review I’ve ever shared. It feels like listening to a high school paper.

Historia
Half-Korean, half-Japanese, Masaji Ishikawa has spent his whole life feeling like a man without a country. This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. But the reality of their new life was far from utopian.

Very Important Book
Revisado: 03-11-22
This is a very important book that everyone should read. So much is happening in the world that North Korea is often far from my thoughts. I doubt I’ll not ever say that again. Terribly heartbreaking & educational. A difficult book but I couldn’t put it down.

Historia
By August 1968, the American space program was in danger of failing in its two most important objectives: to land a man on the moon by President Kennedy's end-of-decade deadline and to triumph over the Soviets in space. With its back against the wall, NASA made an almost unimaginable leap: It would scrap its usual methodical approach and risk everything on a sudden launch, sending the first men in history to the moon - in just four months.

Great Surprise Listen!!
Revisado: 10-06-19
I really didn’t know much about Apollo 8 & chose this on a recommendation & am SO glad I did. Very informative not only about the mission but the 60’s decade. It’s encouraging to read about such great Americans & what they accomplished for country & the entire world. I highly recommend (there is a small amount of profanity).

Historia
As a child, Lydia Pallas became all too familiar with uncertainty when it came to the future. Now, she's finally carved out a perfect life for herself - a life of stability and order with no changes, surprises, or chaos of any kind. She adores her apartment overlooking the bustling Boston Harbor, and her skill with languages has landed her a secure position as a translator for the U.S. Navy. However, it is her talent for translation that brings her into contact with Alexander Banebridge, or "Bane", a man who equally attracts and aggravates her.

Historia
The Christmas season is a particularly difficult time for women to slow down and relish what's right in front of them. An annual marker for many, it is a holiday that can often remind us how life is not going as we'd planned. Our family relationships remain strained, our finances stretched, and our schedules stuffed with too much to do in too little time.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Loved this so much more than I expected to. Amazing story with lots of historical details I didn't know. This is the most inspirational, encouraging book I've ever read. It is my new favorite in nonfiction and maybe overall favorite. Easy to listen to but hard to put down!
