Hold me… how are we supposed to wait till the next one? I have nothing substantive to say, just came here to cry about having to wait yet again… for the next book. It wasn’t predictable and it WAS wonderful.

Okay the protagonist is an IDIOT. Like- every basic personal safety rule ignored at all cost. BUT I did not see that twist coming at all!! And the last sentence. Excellent.

No idea why this is rated so highly.

First of all, the story was… okay. Amber definitely had some major character development, but it kind of came from nowhere. We’re supposed to believe that this self centered, narcissist from Missouri has now become Amber, an intellectual? Sure she was always very smart, but the sudden knowledge of art and philosophy?

Next of all, I am from Texas, and the amount of bizarre turns of phrase the author used to denote “we are in Texas now” made my eyes roll to the back of my head. No one TALKS LIKE THAT “in a tizzy” “shake a stick at” and on and on…
Has this person ever been to Dallas? 🙄 It made the characters seem like caricatures.

Also the “Meredith found my number and contacted me” of Daisy Anne?? Come on. Lazy writing.

Overall, this book lacked the complexity in character development and plot believability that the first book had and I was really bummed.

I am unclear why this story needed to be written or why this book has so many high reviews. The antagonist is reductive and predictable, the protagonist and the way that folks interact with and behave about serial killers or in response to trauma is highly unrealistic and poorly researched. I’ve never given such a low review in my life. I not only want my credit back, but my time. Hey, at least the wife and I might go check out Vermont.

HOW?! HOW is this a best seller??

Okay, about a two thirds through I had the end but that’s not really the issue.

Most of the chracters are underdeveloped and the story, while winding, is full of predictable tropes. The character of Adam is unlikeable. Self loathing, misogynistic, impulsive and mercurial. I found the way he thinks about women to be pretty repugnant.

Because of the high reviews, I pressed on, hoping the story would improve buuuuut that didn’t happen. I want my credit back.
