Historia
Zelda Reynolds has a secret identity as “The Break-Up Artist”, the infamous ender of relationships. Don’t want to end your relationship yourself? Just tell Zelda through her website and she’ll get the job done like a pro. Her online business isn’t paying the bills yet, but at least it’s an escape from her real life, where her boss steals her best ideas, her dates are all duds, and her dad just married someone her own age. When Zelda starts falling for the recipient of one of her snarkiest letters yet, will she have the courage to tell him the truth?

good story but couldn't finish
Revisado: 08-14-22
enjoyed it to a point but couldn't take it seriously anymore after the slimeball of a dad character was forgiven for being awful to his children. this 40 something year old man married a woman both half his age (the age of his daughter) and that his daughter went to school with 6 months after his wife was killed. Proceeds to take down and hide the photos of his wife, and puts them under a bed, and the author acts like even after all that behavior, after being rude to his daughter who is rightly upset by this development, needs to be placed in the victim role. ruined the story for me. Zelda would have been in the right to completely cut him off because of this behavior, and it really damaged her character in my eyes.
I couldn't really continue after the "apology" conversation.

Historia
Art Barbara was so not cool. He was a seventeen-year-old high school loner in the late 1980s who listened to hair metal, had to wear a monstrous back-brace at night for his scoliosis, and started an extracurricular club for volunteer pallbearers at poorly attended funerals. But his new friend thought the Pallbearers Club was cool. And she brought along her Polaroid camera to take pictures of the corpses.

Kingesque ending with none of the build-up
Revisado: 07-06-22
before I start, I wanted to LOVE this book, I preordered it and counted off the days. to be sorely disappointed. this is like if you took the most milquetoast Stephen King novel and slapped a shoddy ending on it. I love Paul Tremblay, he wrote some of my favorite short stories and books, but this is just embarrassing. this isn't a psychological thriller, this is a magazine you find in the therapists waiting room with from a junior author contest. I want my credit back

Historia
Fans of John Carpenter's The Thing can rejoice - here is the original, previously-unpublished, longer version of John W. Campbell's classic story, Who Goes There?, filmed as The Thing and The Thing from Another World. Recently discovered at Harvard by scholar Alec Nevala-Lee, long buried in John W. Campbell's papers, here is the original version of Who Goes There? Included is a preface by Alec Nevala-Lee, an introduction by science fiction grandmaster Robert Silverberg, and the complete text of this newly discovered version of the classic novel.

gonna be honest, I bought this version because I didn't want to spend a credit on Who Goes There
the narrator really chews this story for everything it's worth and more. but that doesn't make the narration good.

over hyped as usual
Revisado: 03-28-22
yet again Laird Barron gives us another platter of overhyped stories that are at the best of times mediocre, and at the worst completely skippable. I started listening because of rave reviews of The Forest and was handed a mushy story that gave absolutely zero satisfaction. the stories in this collection seem to be a collection of unfinished notes of the mildest emotional tug. the "slow burn" of the collection is a mild suntan at best, and the author chews his prose like it's a mouthful of gristle, just moving his mouth for an unsatisfying, and nonutritious meal of a read

Historia
Surrounded by barren trees in a snow-covered wilderness with a dim, dusky sky forever overhead, Siberia’s Kolyma Highway is 1200 miles of gravel packed permafrost within driving distance of the Arctic Circle. A narrow path where drivers face such challenging conditions as icy surfaces, limited visibility, and an average temperature of 60 degrees below zero, fatal car accidents are common.

Boring
Revisado: 02-16-22
If you want a boring, unneeded exposition heavy, and seemingly never ending book chock full of clunky dialogue You found it.
The narrator cannot be bothered to even try to read enthusiastically. The story and the dialogue are clunky at the best of times. It is just a sodden slog of an audiobook

Bland writing
Revisado: 10-02-21
The author writes like they're trying to hit a word count. As I am doing with this review. The stories are needlessly over detailed and drag on slowly. Even with the details the stories are beige and just the same over and over. Dragging on with seemingly no end in sight. The narrator gets very dull after a while. Glad it was free with my membership

Historia
In Shut Up and Eat!, humorist and parenting author Kathy Buckworth applies her razor-sharp wit to the family meal. Experts claim that sitting down to eat together can prevent children from getting into trouble while simultaneously creating close-knit families, but what about the son who thinks his food tastes better on the blue plate or the daughter who won’t eat anything green? Laugh-out-loud funny and more accurate than most of us would care to admit Shut Up and Eat! is a must-listen for any woman who’s ever wondered: What the hell am I cooking tonight?

Historia
Rachel DeLoache Williams’ new friend Anna Delvey, a self-proclaimed German heiress, was worldly and ambitious. She was also generous - picking up the tab for lavish dinners at Le Coucou, infrared sauna sessions at HigherDOSE, drinks at the 11 Howard Library bar, and regular workout sessions with a celebrity personal trainer. When Anna proposed an all-expenses-paid trip to Marrakech at the five-star La Mamounia hotel, Rachel jumped at the chance. But when Anna’s credit cards mysteriously stopped working, the dream vacation quickly took a dark turn.

Against victim blaming... but...
Revisado: 01-29-21
This is a bad audiobook.
Absolutely terrible. Written badly, narrated badly, and really the actions of the author make me angry at myself for being upset at the ineptitude of the person who experienced all this crap.
It was a slog even at accelerated speeds. This whole story and problem could have been avoided if the author took five minutes to actually assess the situation like an adult. For the love of Christ lady get your head together. A majority of it is the same repetitive texts and the author refusing to notice the bright crimson banners dancing across her view.
If the author actually reads this and gets upset, I have some ocean front property in Nebraska that will definitely make you feel much better.
