Historia
Kip, Kira, and Leslie are outliers, even in the metal scene they love. In arch-conservative backwoods Florida in the 1980s, just listening to heavy metal can get you arrested—but the risk is worth taking, because music is what leads them to each other. Different from one another as they are, the three of them form a family of sorts, one that proves safer and more loving than the broken homes they come from. Together, they make the pilgrimage from Florida's swamp country to L.A.'s fabled Sunset Strip—but the beautiful new life they've dreamed of soon proves a mirage.

Just OK
Revisado: 06-30-23
I love the subject matter, I was a metal head in the 80's and a lifelong metal head. I know and listen to these bands. So I was very excited to read this book.
I feel that the music references were acceptable but not great. I liked the setting, Florida was the right scene. But the characters were often difficult to relate with and the experience was in general not relatable. I guess I was hoping for some nostalgia but didn't feel it.
I was back and forth on the performance but land on a solid good.
I will recommend to some of my old metal buddies with a caveat that they may find it a bit unrelatable but still entertaining.

Forced Myself to Finish
Revisado: 06-06-23
The story did not grab me. I struggled to care about the characters at all. So as I spent hours listening I kept thinking Who Cares if this or that happens? Some stories take a while to warm up, but at the half way point I started to despair. I never felt engaged and forced myself to finish it because I paid for it. I just couldn't find any character depth. Regarding the performance, I've listened to this narrator before and found his mannerisms and voice mildly irritating. In the previous books I was able to ignore this because the story was engaging. However, with this story simply not developing his voice became highly irritating.
I see this book is popular overall and I wanted to like it, so it may be worth a listen to many. However, I found it intolerably monotonous.
