Historia
In 1856-57 Frederick Law Olmsted took a saddle trip through Texas to see the area and report on its lands and peoples. His description of the Lone Star State is one of the most outstanding books about the American West ever published. Based on firsthand observation and backed by research, Olmsted's text captures the customs and cultures of the Texans in an engaging way.

The narrator is so annoying

Worst narrator ever
Revisado: 07-18-22
The title is excellent but Troy Davis' narration is almost impossible to listen to. I had to double check to make sure it was a real narrator and not some computer generated voice. He must work for free, and even then, he comes up short.

Fun to listen; hard to find
Revisado: 06-25-18
A good listen but there is no index or TOC to return to a story. I've run into this before in Audible poetry and other compilations. It can't be that difficult to list titles instead of a useless list of "chapters" and it would be a significant benefit to the listener.

Historia
In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

Pretentious and overacted
Revisado: 01-22-12
I was warned about the narration but it's so bad I wonder if I can finish this rendition. Aside from a misinterpretation of the tone of the book and demeanor of the characters, the narration is pretentious and overacted. Brick's voice is wispy and melancholy; a sing-songy intonation that cares more for the words than the context. But it's unfair to hang this all on Brick. A catastrophe of this proportion takes teamwork.
