I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

As a 40 year old man, I spent the last 4-5 hours audibly crying and laughing and crying. The voice acting? Immaculate.

Historia
In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back. The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses.

I'll keep this one short. Nona loves you. You will love Nona. It's not a trilogy and I have no idea why Google says it is. Another book is coming. Brace for impact, fam, it's promising to be one heck of a ride.

Family Man's Isekai
Revisado: 06-09-23
I got the feeling through most of the book that it would be a one and done kind of story. That changed near the end when suddenly, that was not the case. All that said, though, I felt like the pacing was pretty good.
I've noticed a few other reviews touch on a few things that I also found notable: The MC is very Christian. While I think there's certainly an argument to be made that the character's application of said faith can be a tad heavy handed at times, I also think it was a very important addition to the story. Often, I feel like in an isekai style story, as soon as the character is in the new world, they allow their original world to simply slough off them like a second skin the not only no longer need, but never wanted to begin with. Unlike other stories, while this one was a tad rough around the edges, keeping to a character that actually seeks to return to their world, to reunite with their family, and to regain normalcy is a pretty big thing. For such a character, holding onto their faith in a world filled with an alternate pantheon feels pretty important.
Heavy handed also was the pop-culture referencing. That said, if you're reading this style of book, you're going to get them all. You'll either smile or roll your eyes, but the book as a whole feels pretty tongue-in-cheek, so even if you do, it's kind of what you expect and at the very least for me, I embraced it wholeheartedly.
As far as the voice acting goes, I think overall it was pretty consistent, and generally pleasant. There were a few rough spots in the beginning, but I couldn't tell if that was direction, or actor choice. The voice effects used for some characters were very offputting, though. Had they been more prevalent, I'd be inclined to rate something lower, but would be inclined to not have it ding the Performance score as I'm sure that's something production had more of a hand in.
All in all, I'll look forward to the next book, but I'd have been far happier with this one had it been about an hour longer and finished up in this one, I think. It felt like it had the potential to resolve soon, but decided not to.

Historia
The Tenth Realm has been lost, and Akran’s hordes of devourers and ravagers have been loosed upon the lower realms, dealing the reclusive and powerful Imperium a serious blow. It will take Alva, the Imperium, the sects, clans, nations, and city-states to band together as they did in times of old. It’s time for everyone to put their war boots on and put their cultivation to use.

Rushed, but I expected worse
Revisado: 06-06-23
After the first 10 books in the series being sprawling epics, I absolutely felt like the last two books were pretty rushed. You could argue that the last two books were, instead, succinct, but it's splitting hairs at that point. I was very pleased with how the ending felt, though I would have absolutely liked to have seen more from what was going on in the world.
Also, with how hyped up the last dungeon was made out to be, it felt... empty. I'm unsure if there was a reason a lot of the last portions were glossed over or rushed, but at the same time, I felt that the books had a really big chance to go REALLY FAR OFF THE RAILS. And the books did not do that.
Did some of it feel rushed? Yes. Did the author button up the majority of my concerns? Also yes. It could have been better, but with something so long, it also could have been a lot worse.
If nothing else, I could easily see it as having been the author having gotten tired of the series, at which point, I'm happy that he had the dedication to wrap it up instead of abandoning it and just moving on like I've seen other authors do, so kudos on that much.
If I'd made it to the Ninth Realm book, knowing what I do now, I'd have still gotten the last two books. I also probably would have started from the beginning knowing it had a shoddy ending because the first 10 books were just so gosh darn good. We may not have absolutely crushed the landing, but as least we didn't faceplant!

Historia
The London Silver Vaults—for well over a century, the largest collection of silver for sale in the world. It has more locks than the Bank of England and more cameras than a paparazzi convention. Not somewhere you can murder someone and vanish without a trace—only that’s what happened. The disappearing act, the reports of a blinding flash of light, and memory loss amongst the witnesses all make this a case for Detective Constable Peter Grant and the Special Assessment Unit.

Continued Perfection
Revisado: 03-07-23
I regularly remind people that I don't reread books, rewatch shows or movies, or really consume any media more than once.
This does not apply to The Rivers Of London. I end up relistening to the stores every time a new book comes out.
This one is no different. Majestic on execution and story. I just want more constantly. Can't wait for the next one.

Historia
It’s been three months since Stark stopped a death cult and a potential ghost apocalypse, and he’s at loose ends. His personal life is a mess. His professional life isn’t much better. LA is gripped by a viral epidemic. But what’s even more frightening is the Shoggot gang and their leader, King Bullet, who revels in the city’s collapse. Who is King Bullet? No one knows. He seemingly came from nowhere with nothing but a taste for mayhem and an army of crazed killers who follow his every command.

A Grand Finale
Revisado: 09-01-21
I didn't go into this book knowing it was the last one on the series. But hot damn did it ever deliver. Kadrey killed it with this one.
I've been following this series since the beginning and I'm equal parts delighted and depressed that it's over now. Whole thing was worth it and every book was a performance masterpiece by the narrator.
PS: I would like a Fuck Hollywood spinoff series. I have no idea what it should do, but she was horribly endearing.

As a white guy, this sucked to listen to. That said, clearly the point. A lot of really difficult and uncomfortable questions happening here.
Don't sleep on this and make sure to listen to the end. The last woman spoken to GOES. IN.
Not sure what I'm gonna do with all this info, now, but hopefully something reasonable.

Sad to See Her Go
Revisado: 08-19-20
I've been following this series off and on for the past... Lots of years.
Honestly didn't feel like the kind of series that was ever going to end (just because that's what people do, now. Got a Cash cow? Milk that thing till it croaks). Got sad when I saw this was the last book, but at the same time...
It's a good ending. Thanks, Chuck. Ya did good.
Can we get a series sequel, though?
