Historia
A stunningly beautiful young woman is found strangled in London's Mudchute Park, her clothing carefully arranged to preserve her modesty. With that unusual detail in mind, Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and his partner Sergeant Gemma James suspect the crime was more than a simple assault gone awry. As they collect the strange facts surrounding her death, they discover the victim's life was a mystery even to those who knew her best.

Good resolution
Revisado: 12-15-23
I appreciated that although this is one of a series, it tied up the story, which was pretty emotionally hard, but engaging and entertaining and thought-provoking.

… but engaging and entertaining for that. Good twists, and I appreciated the resolution that doesn’t just completely end the story. Enjoyed the narration.

Historia
Who was the real Diana? What was it like to be so privileged yet so anguished, so beloved yet so self-loathing, so spoiled yet so despairing? The Princess of Wales was all these things--far more complicated, conflicted, and intriguing a person than the wildly disparate saint or lunatic she is frequently portrayed to be.

Grateful for the ending
Revisado: 12-08-23
Although I thought the last sentence was ridiculously glib, I am otherwise very glad of the last chapter and the afterword in this book the accomplishments of Diana’s last year or so and going deeply into the accident that took her life. Before that, this was going to be my review:
If you want destroyed pretty much any positive memories/ideas you have of the former Princess Diana, read this book, which paints her as a spoiled, promiscuous, irresponsible, scheming, and vindictive narcissist. (I don’t doubt the veracity, but ouch. While she had some legitimate illnesses that would have affected her personality, it’s quite clear that she was largely not a good person.)

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Bent, but entertaining.
Revisado: 11-20-23
An engaging story with tons of twists and turns and well-narrated. I do recommend it. And that’s 15 words and I don’t really have anything else to say and I don’t know why Audible is not accepting my review.

Eva Kavinsky wakes in a dark cellar, with no memory of how she got here. Imprisoned with her, seemingly at random, are four men. The only way out is the trapdoor in the ceiling – and it's locked. The single clue about what brings them all here is a cryptic message sprayed onto one wall. Connect the dots. Repent. A camera fixed high above reach is livestreaming this whole nightmare to the world. What confessions are they meant to make to their unseen audience?

Although I noticed multiple American words being mispronounced by an American character and multiple grammar errors by an apparently otherwise educated character and they were a few eye rolls over some unexplained behaviors, I really enjoyed the twists and turns and surprises in the story and I recommend it.

Historia
Marilyn Monroe, born to deprivation and a series of foster homes, became an acting legend of the 20th century. She married famous men, Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller, and her many lovers included President John F. Kennedy. Her death, at 36, is a mystery that remains unsolved to this day. Anthony Summers interviewed 600 people for this book, which reveals unknown truths, some funny, some very sad, about this brilliant but troubled woman. First to gain access to the files of Monroe's last psychiatrist, he throws light on Monroe's troubled psyche.

I’m not a particular fan of Marilyn Monroe – I’m not sure I’ve ever watched one of her movies - but I do like biographies, including Hollywood biographies, and boy did I not know this woman at all! Mostly for the worst – this is not a flattering portrayal of her or most of her cohorts, including the Kennedys! – but while I found the entire book engaging, it was all the afterword material that I found truly fascinating.

Revisado: 10-25-23
The crime part is dark and twisted and there’s some difficult themes and some physical description that’s a bit gory and one extramarital sex scene, but the vast majority of it is engaging and thought-provoking and poignant even… I really do recommend this book as long as you can handle some descriptive wording.

Historia
In January 1956, a tragic story flooded headlines around the world. Five men, spurred by a passion to share the good news of Jesus Christ, ventured deep into the jungles of Ecuador. Their goal: to make contact with an isolated tribe whose previous response to the outside world had been to attack all strangers. Through Gates of Splendor, the story of Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, and Jim Elliot, was first recorded in 1956 by Jim's widow, Elisabeth.

Inspiring and heartbreaking
Revisado: 10-23-23
It wasn’t until a while in that I realized I was listening to the book on which The End of the Spear was based.
I appreciated the first half of this book more than the second half because of the inspiration of the dedication for God that these folks have.
The dedication remains throughout, but the trial five of them, and their friends and families, faced is really hard. Inspiring response by those remaining, but it was really the words and descriptions of the lives preceding the ultimate event that got to me as an aspiring Christian.
