Great storytelling!
Revisado: 01-11-25
Really enjoyed this book!! It’s got a lot of detail, culture and information but it’s so beautifully wrapped up in the narrative and story that it absolutely flows along and brings the reader on the journey. It’s rare to find a contemporary novel that really displays the art of telling story, especially using oral storytelling skills. I’m so glad I listened to this book on Audible. The writer/narrator is absolutely captivating.

For now, survival means staying hidden—but what they don't know is that one of them holds the secret to defeating the marrow thieves.

Engaging story but narrator hard to hear
Revisado: 05-01-24
Overall an enjoyable story. The narrator was hard to hear/understand at points, particularly when performing certain characters’ voices. Her volume dropped when she was performing some of the accents.

Jen Lancaster is here to take a hard look at our elevating anxieties, and with self-deprecating wit and levelheaded wisdom, she charts a path out of the quagmire that keeps us frightened of the future and ashamed of our imperfectly perfect human lives. Take a deep breath, and her advice, and you just might get through a holiday dinner without wanting to disown your uncle.

Some good moments
Revisado: 08-31-23
The book had some interesting points, but overall, a good editor to tighten it up would have been really beneficial. The first section on avocado toast, for example, went on too long. It would have been much better and funnier if it was more concise. Amazingly I made it all the way through the book, but had to put it aside for brief periods because the redundancy was fatiguing. I don’t mean the recall references that pop up throughout the book to things already mentioned, but where points are first introduced and she goes on a bit too long. Give readers some credit for brains. Sometimes I also just wanted to yell “get off the internet. You’re too consumed with social media/internet”. An editor would have helped a lot.

Historia
Irreverent, charming, and eminently quotable, this handbook - an eccentric etiquette guide for the human race - contains 69 aphorisms, anecdotes, whimsical suggestions, maxims, and cautionary tales from Mark Twain’s private and published writings. It dispenses advice and reflections on family life and public manners; opinions on topics such as dress, health, food, and childrearing and safety; and more specialized tips, such as those for dealing with annoying salesmen and burglars.

Laugh out loud funny
Revisado: 11-07-22
Really, really enjoyable and very, very funny in places!! I’ve read many of Twain’s works, but this had some gems I hadn’t heard before. It starts out a little slow but then gets wonderful and is over far too soon. Highly recommend thus if you want some good laughs

Historia
Life is hard enough for a teenage girl in 1950s suburbia without having a mother who may—or may not—be a witch. A single mother at that. Sure, she fits in with her starched dresses, string of pearls, and floral aprons. Then there are the hushed and mystical consultations with neighborhood women in distress. The unsavory, mysterious plants in the flower beds. The divined warning to steer clear of a boyfriend whose fate is certainly doomed.

Real enjoyable tale, tightly written.
Revisado: 08-05-22
This short story is very quick and enjoyable!! The writing is condensed and to the point. As with most of Atwood’s works, the story pulls you along in one direction and then provides a twist to make the reader evaluate their assumptions/interpretations of the events and the story. Great short piece of writing!

Historia
Rock and roll in the BC (Before Cooper) era was a tamer, milder world. In Who I Really Am, Cooper’s latest addition to Audible’s Words + Music series, we learn how the boa-wearing (not the feathered kind) maestro arrived at a show and sound - let’s call it AC for After Cooper - that has entertained millions of kids while terrifying parents in equal measure. Cooper drew inspiration from Saturday matinee horror movies, applied a "no such thing as too much" attitude, and hitched it to a kick-ass rock and roll band.
