OVERWRITTEN
Revisado: 06-26-23
There is so much excess description, for example, when Phillipa cleans and redecorates the flat for her mother to come to. It is TEDIOUS. I love the Dalgliesh mysteries and have listened to some more than once. I guess the author was too celebrated and popular for the editors to have questioned her verbosity and repetitiveness. I have to listen to the whole story because the premise is so interesting, but I almost have to force myself. Description can be wonderful, but if I didn't have my knitting to work on while enduring this title I probably would have given up. It is a slog and a huge disappointment from one of Britain's greatest authors.

Historia
When the police arrive at the holiday bungalow of the haughty Justice Ireton to find a man killed by gunshot and the high court judge brandishing a pistol, the case seems as straightforward as it is scandalous. Yet, with the incongruous assemblage of physical evidence, the judge's denial of any participation in the crime and the recent events of his daughter's love life combined, the deceptively simple case is soon steeped in complexity. At a loss in the bizarre circumstances, the local force calls in the larger-than-life sleuth Dr Gideon Fell.

Awful narrator

Prissy voice of the judge and the unnecessary pauses drove me crazy. Never again Kris Dyer!

Tedious
Revisado: 01-26-22
I loved “A Gentleman in Moscow” but this book is so slow. Tiresome amount of detail.
The gee whiz voice of Billy drove me nuts.
Great premise, but where was the editor?

Loved the reader, setting, and characters but the story is unbelievable and way too long.
Irritating.

Historia
Can You Forgive Her? is the first of the six in the Palliser series. Trollope inextricably binds together the issues of parliamentary election and marriage, of politics and privacy. The values and aspirations of the governing stratum of Victorian society are ruthlessly examined, and none remains unscathed. But above all Trollope focuses on the predicament of women. 'What should a woman do with her life?' asks Alice Vavasor of herself, and this theme is echoed by every other woman in the audiobook.

The perfect narrator.

Timothy West is great. Perfection of dialect, accent, and pacing.
Trollope is brilliant and funny and I love every second of his books.
They are much better as audio books, because of the brilliance of the readers.
