It's 1974 and Ellison Russell's life revolves around her daughter and her art. She's long since stopped caring about her cheating husband, Henry, and the women with whom he entertains himself. That is, until she becomes a suspect in Madeline Harper's death. The murder forces Ellison to confront her husband's proclivities and his crimes - kinky sex, petty cruelties, and blackmail. As the body count approaches par on the seventh hole, Ellison knows she has to catch a killer.

Relationships...men live and women adjust
Revisado: 02-14-24
I enjoyed this book. It was a distraction from my current responsibilities of taking care of spouse and brothers that have live like they pleased without regard to getting old, losing their eyesight, taking care of their responsibilities or listening.

Seniors were the main characters
Revisado: 01-29-24
Enjoyed listening. The characters were all interesting and seniors. The were making the best of living in a senior community, doing important, interesting work and using their talents to remain relevant. It converted heavy subjects but in a matter of fact but not heavy and depressing way.

Historia
Why exactly Charley Bordelon's late father left her eight hundred sprawling acres of sugarcane land in rural Louisiana is as mysterious as it was generous. Recognizing this as a chance to start over, Charley and her 11-year-old daughter, Micah, say good-bye to Los Angeles. They arrive just in time for growing season but no amount of planning can prepare Charley for a Louisiana that's mired in the past: as her judgmental but big-hearted grandmother tells her, cane farming is always going to be a white man's business.

Loved it. Some disappointment, but lots of good ..just like life. Disappointment with how things turned out for some of the characters but guess that's the way life goes.
