Historia
In the past two decades, our understanding of the navigational and physiological feats that enable birds to cross immense oceans, fly above the highest mountains, or remain in unbroken flight for months at a stretch has exploded. What we've learned of these key migrations is nothing short of extraordinary. This breathtaking work of nature writing also introduces listeners to those scientists, researchers, and bird lovers trying to preserve global migratory patterns in the face of climate change and other environmental challenges.

the author is leaning more towards the political environmental argument in this "essay" rather than the odyssey of the birds. I didn't complete it for this reason. we all are aware of the affect that human has had on the environment. I didn't want another enlightenment but only some fun education of what our avian companions are so capable of and why.

disappointing after previous reads
Revisado: 03-05-24
I've listened to at least three novels from this author and all have been excellent reads with surprisingly witty stories. this one wasn't. perhaps I have missed something in this story. I don't recommend this as an example of moriarty's other works

Historia
"There is the mammal way and there is the bird way." But the bird way is much more than a unique pattern of brain wiring, and lately, scientists have taken a new look at bird behaviors they have, for years, dismissed as anomalies or mysteries - what they are finding is upending the traditional view of how birds conduct their lives, how they communicate, forage, court, breed, survive. They are also revealing the remarkable intelligence underlying these activities, abilities we once considered uniquely our own.

Historia
Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. In this full-length novel written exclusively for audio, authors A. J. Hartley and David Hewson rethink literature’s most infamous married couple, grounding them in a medieval Scotland whose military and political upheavals are as stark and dramatic as the landscape in which they are played.

as compared to hamlet by the same authors
Revisado: 09-13-15
Where does Macbeth: A Novel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
not my favorite but very good
What other book might you compare Macbeth: A Novel to and why?
hamlet. the story I dont think is as good as hamlet but the narration is better in macbeth. the depiction of the characters is the most obvious difference. part of this is the writing but more in the characterization from the narrator
Have you listened to any of Alan Cumming’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
not sure that I have
If you could take any character from Macbeth: A Novel out to dinner, who would it be and why?
none. It was not easy to like any one character over another. even the villains

Historia
With ravishing beauty and unsettling intelligence, Michael Ondaatje's Booker Prize-winning novel traces the intersection of four damaged lives in an Italian villa at the end of World War II. Hana, the exhausted nurse; the maimed thief, Caravaggio; the wary sapper, Kip: each is haunted by the riddle of the English patient, the nameless, burned man who lies in an upstairs room and whose memories of passion, betrayal, and rescue illuminate this book like flashes of heat lightning.

much rewinding but worth it
Revisado: 09-03-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
yes. it was dry but with enough interest to rewind and continue
What did you like best about this story?
excellent character creation. it tells a story of postwar. not many stories do. it includes some interesting sub stories as well
What about Christopher Cazenove’s performance did you like?
the voices helped break up the different eras
Was The English Patient worth the listening time?
definitely
Any additional comments?
as most books are, this one is far better than the film

not the historical novel that i had expected
Revisado: 06-13-15
Would you try another book from Consuelo Saah Baehr and/or Karen Peakes?
possibly
What was most disappointing about Consuelo Saah Baehr’s story?
it started out well but slowly lost more and more of the important details. almost like it was abridged. almost as if it was over edited
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
the narrator was able to depict the voices well. sometimes there wasnt enough elaboration between changes, making listener have to go back
Do you think Three Daughters needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
no. it has enough time. it should have been made into two books on its own. then maybe more pertinent details could've been included
Any additional comments?
interesting enough to listen to but not a favorite
