Historia
Philippa, elder daughter of the Earl of Stratton, grew up eagerly anticipating a glittering debut and a brilliant marriage. Then her brother caught their father out in a clandestine affair and denounced him publicly. The whole family was disgraced, and Philippa's hopes grew dim, then were fully shattered when she overheard the dashing, handsome Marquess of Roath viciously insult her upon learning of her father's identity. Only years later does Philippa find the courage to go to London at last to meet the ton.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-30-23
I usually love Mary Balogh’s books, but this one isn’t up to par. It drags so slowly and lacks any real depth of character, which is not her usual at all. The format is more narrative and while the narrator does a good job, it just never grabbed me. If it was a paper book I would have flipped to the end. The first book in this series was the same kind of narrative style and I also struggled with it. I hope this isn’t a pattern for all future books.

Horrible. Don’t bother.

I wish I could get my money back. The story begins horrifically and doesn’t get better. There is no character development or sense of chivalry or redemption. Very

Historia
Claire Bradford needed a wake-up call. What she didn't need was a tragic car accident. As a single mom and the owner of a successful bead shop, Claire leads a predictable life in Hope's Crossing, Colorado. So what if she has no time for romance? At least that's what she tells herself, especially when her best friend's sexy younger brother comes back to town as the new chief of police.

Good but too sweet
Revisado: 06-10-23
I wanted to yell at the heroine quite a lot and tell her to grow a spine. Half the characters in the book walk all over her, disguised as “I want to be a good person”. Being a doormat isn’t a positive message; being assertive is healthy. It’s still a good story but could have been better. Narration was good.

As always, McCaffrey did great world-building and created complex characters. Narration is a pleasure to listen to. I’ve listened to this series several times over the years.

I have listened to this story at least twice a year for a while now. It’s a great story, against a stunning and unique backdrop. Funny and twisty enough to keep my attention. The characters are memorable and strong. The narrator does a great job.

Historia
It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a celebrity couple who’d conquered both Hollywood and Broadway. And now Eve Dallas has made her entrance—but not as a guest. After raising a toast, Fitzhugh fell to the floor and died, with physical symptoms pointing to cyanide, and the police have crashed the party. From all accounts, he wasn’t the kind of star who made enemies. Everyone loved him—even his ex-wife. And since the champagne cocktail that killed him was originally intended for Eliza, it’s possible she was the real target.

Awesome hero; frail heroine
Revisado: 12-18-22
Tucker was a good character, though not as fully developed as I had expected, he was still good overall. Jillian was so irritating and never really matched the strength of Tucker, or other heroines by this author. I almost stopped listening several times I was so irritated with her whining and weakness and superficial woe is me attitude. It was a decent enough plot but not the strongest journey to the end. I find myself hoping Tucker doesn’t regret it.

Historia
While Eve examines a fresh body in Washington Square Park, her husband, Roarke, spots a man among the onlookers he’s known since his younger days on the streets of Dublin. A man who claims to be his half brother. A man who kills for a living - and who burns with hatred for him. Eve is quick to suspect that the victim’s spouse - resentful over his wife’s affair and poised to inherit her fortune - would have happily paid an assassin to do his dirty work. Roarke is just as quick to warn her that if Lorcan Cobbe is the hitman, she needs to be careful.
