A good read that the ending ruined.
Revisado: 10-19-18
I liked most of this book, it was hard to put down and kept me on the edge of my seat, so to speak. It was the ending that ruined it for me. Fury used one of my biggest pet-peeves and I can’t figure out why. I live in the real world so I don’t need anyone to remind me that life isn’t fair and that bad shit happens. I certainly don’t need an author of fiction to tell me that. The ending was so overly dramatic when it wasn't necessary. The author did something that is one of my biggest pet-peeves. That is one of the reasons I bumped a star off my review. It was a solid four star read, but I was tempted to take it down to two, which would not have been fair considering most of the book was interesting and fun.
SPOILER ALERT
It is just fine when the good guys get to live. It is make-believe based on real life, but still imaginary. Having one of the most likable characters, and one that I was first rooting for to get out alive in book one, Black Site, die by doing something so stupid and out of character in the second book was a complete downer. So, let me emphasize again; we like it when the good guys live. It is kind of necessary in these troubled times to think, and read about the good guys winning and making it out alive.
To have TJ let himself get stabbed in the heart and then pull out the knife after Racer reaches him was, well, stupid. First of all, I don’t believe that Racer and TJ would have split up to run down David, the exceptionally smart bad guy. Secondly, to then have TJ yank out the hunting knife David used to stab him with was, well, stupid. I know not to pull out an object that has been stabbed into me, so I know a Tier One Operator would certainly know. And if we are being honest, who among us would have the strength to do it? More important, how does one get over the ick factor of performing what I consider surgery and pull out said knife?
The ending of the book did not keep in line with the intelligence of TJ and Racer and this was a really good book that didn’t need a useless twist at the end to say “gotch ya”.

Beware. This ends with a CLIFFHANGER.
Revisado: 07-05-18
The story starts out a little slow, but the characters are likeable. What I hate are endings that are cliffhangers. I don't know if I liked it enough to order the next book, and I definitely will not if it is another cliffhanger.

What disappointed you about His Secret Past?
Where was Katie Reus when this piece-o-shat was written?
What could Katie Reus have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Did she write this?
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Viv Williams?
zzzz
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from His Secret Past?
Definitely all the scenes where the h wants the H to explain things to her. Mind you these would be scenes where she has just been saved from being killed and another killer may be lurking. This happens throughout the book starting with the first chapter.
The h was TSTL.

Boring...
Revisado: 11-11-13
Would you try another book from Jill Shalvis and/or Karen White?
Sure.
Would you ever listen to anything by Jill Shalvis again?
Animal Magnetism Novels 1 thru 3 were much better than the 4th, Rumor Has It. Jill Shalvis should have stopped while she was ahead.
What didn’t you like about Karen White’s performance?
There was nothing wrong with White's performance. She is a good narrator. Unfortunately, even her performance couldn't save this book.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Rumor Has It?
The heroine's constant spouting of stupid science facts. Nearly every time she opened her mouth. Enough was enough, it wasn't necessary to beat readers over the head with her loopy science info.
Any additional comments?
The story was so dull and the chemistry between the H/h so nonexistent that they seemed more like brother and sister than lovers. Gave this book a definite ick factor...not good for a romance novel. Enjoy the first three books in this series, save your money and leave this one on the shelf.

But Bonner "Blue" Boyd is a rancher and Casey is a New Yorker, and even if the sex between them is hot enough to start a prairie fire, they both know that city and country might mix for a week, but it can't work for a lifetime. Or can it?

Narrator SUCKS!
Revisado: 12-25-12
Would you try another book from Cat Johnson and/or Ginger Perkins?
Cat Johnson - Yes
Ginger Perkins - No F-ing Way! She had everyone from the heroine to all the male characters sounding like the "stupid" character from old western movies. Complete with voice cracking and going up and down like a adolescent boy. Not to mention the over-acting.
I think Ginger Perkins has made it to my No. 1 spot of worst narrators. Too bad for Cat.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The narration was so bad I don't remember much about the story. I guess I tuned more out than I thought I had.
How could the performance have been better?
Retire Perkins.
Was A Cowboy for Christmas worth the listening time?
Again, had to tune out the horrible overacted, 1930's style narration by Perkins.
Any additional comments?
I like Cat Johnson's books. But who the heck put Perkins in front of a microphone? The perfect punishment would be to make them listen to every recording Perkins made, after they were made to listen to some of the best narrators in the business like Therese Plunmer, Johanna Parker, and Kaleo Griffith.

A book for those that are a glutton for punishment
Revisado: 11-17-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Nothing.
Has Heaven, Texas turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. It is in a category of its own.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Anna Fields?
She wasn't bad. I wouldn't hold this book against her.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Heaven, Texas?
Where to start...? How about from beginning to end?
Any additional comments?
This book isn't like the others in the series that have some lighthearted dialogue between the characters. In this book there is no respect shown towards the heroine or the women reading this book. The hero of this story isn't just "afraid of love", he has no respect for our supposed heroine. The hero doesn't just ignore her or put her off he is down right HATEFUL towards her. It was hard to get to the end of this book and so disappointing for those of us that started out liking this series. I read, Match Me If You Can first and thought I would go back and start at the beginning, which was a mistake.
I'm done with Susan Elizabeth Phillips, the "Misogynist".

Almost Perfect.
Revisado: 08-19-12
If you could sum up Three Nights of Sin in three words, what would they be?
Historical - Romance - Mystery
What other book might you compare Three Nights of Sin to and why?
I have not read it yet...
What does Angèle Masters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Angele Masters did a great job performing both the multiple male roles and the female ones. From high class to working class.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Agatha Christie and Mr. GQ meets Jack the Ripper.
Any additional comments?
I have read thousands of books. What I liked so much about this book was that Anne Malllory broke the mold or rather broke out of the mold with Three Nights of Sin. There isn't a book out there that I can compare this one to, it is one of my all time favorites.Congratulations to Ms. Mallory for her first audiobook. She really raised the bar with this one! Thank goodness a great narrator was chosen to record it.
