Agatha Award-winning author Rhys Bowen’s charming combination of intrigue and romance blended with a touch of humor shines when performed by Audible Hall of Fame narrator Katherine Kellgren, whose deft range and impeccable accent work make it hard to believe this isn’t a multicast performance.

An enjoyable story
Revisado: 12-13-17
I enjoyed this book. It's a light sort of story, with entertaining characters and I enjoyed the style of writing. Well narrated too, with all sorts of accents and different voices for the various characters. I would recommend it if you feel like a lighter read.

Historia
Awe and exhilaration—along with heartbreak and mordant wit—abound in Lolita, which tells the story of the aging Humbert Humbert's obsession for the nymphet Dolores Haze. Lolita is also the story of a hypercivilized European colliding with the cheerful barbarism of postwar America.

Historia
Sometimes when he didn't know he was being watched, Meggie would look at him and try desperately to imprint his face upon her brain's core. And he would turn to find her watching him, a look in his eyes of haunted grief, a doomed look. She understood the implicit message, or thought she did; he must go, back to the Church and his duties. Never again with the same spirit, perhaps, but more able to serve. For only those who have slipped and fallen know the vicissitudes of the way.

Historia
Joe Allston is a retired literary agent who is, in his own words, "killing time before time gets around to killing me." His parents and his only son are long dead, leaving him with neither ancestors nor descendants, tradition nor ties. His job, trafficking the talent of others, had not been his choice. He passes through life as a spectator. But a postcard from a friend causes him to return to the journals of a trip he had taken years before.

This book made me think
Revisado: 10-21-13
The story is a simple one, but one gets into it and it makes one think. It took me a while to get into it but it was narrated at a comforting pace and is short enough to not labour.

Historia
From the author of The Power of One comes a new novel about Africa. The time is 1939. White South Africa is a deeply divided nation with many of the Afrikaner people fanatically opposed to the English. The world is also on the brink of war, and South Africa elects to fight for the Allied cause against Germany. Six-year-old Tom Fitzsaxby finds himself in The Boys Farm, an orphanage in a remote town in the high mountains, where the Afrikaners side fiercely with Hitler's Germany.

Most enjoyable
Revisado: 10-21-13
I really enjoyed this book. The second part seems almost unnecessary because the first half is almost enough of a story, with interesting elements of South African history told in a non-judgmental way. None the less it is a very enjoyable listen. I enjoy Humphrey Bower as narrator.

I enjoyed the naration. Somehow the narator gets the feeling of a cold wet Sweden across, which sets the mood for the book. The story is well thought out and the plot intense. A most enjoyable experience.

Revisado: 04-10-12
Rene Auberjonois narrates this book so well, I can't imagine hearing Pentagast in anyone else's voice! But I'm most certainly going to get more of these books, starting with number one, Relic. I enjoyed Fever Dream because to me it was interesting, original and not formulaic. I love Pentagast's character.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.
