Historia
Often called the greatest novel ever written, War and Peace is at once an epic of the Napoleonic wars, a philosophical study, and a celebration of the Russian spirit. Tolstoy's genius is clearly seen in the multitude of characters in this massive chronicle, all of them fully realized and equally memorable.

I wanted to know what the big deal was.
Revisado: 10-30-19
I had to find out what the deal was with the "Citizen Kane" of books, without spending a year and a half trudging through 1200 pages. And I have to say I was suprised at how interesting the story and characters were (once you figure out who's who and whats what). But even more impressive was how well Tolstoy floats between history, military tactics, philosophy, and even psychology in his dissection of the events leading up to, during and after the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. The guy was a brilliant writer, very realistic; you felt like you're really inside the head of these men, women and their kids. Long story short, this book and Tolstoy deserves his fanfare.

It was ok
Revisado: 08-05-19
Really enjoyed the first book, I was excited to see where it went. But I became pretty annoyed with how indecisive and how much of a pushover and Chesney continued to be. I didn't expect him to be Thor, bringing down the thunder, but he lets everyone walk all over him, particularly the reverend, angel etc subplot irritated me. But if you're a fan of the first book, you might love this one, I didn't.
