Lisa Kleypas has captured the essence of emotion that is love. I’ve read every thing she’s ever written. Listening to it in this format gives new life to the characters. Ugh. I just love Leo and Marks.

Okay. I have to start this review early. I’m only on like chapter.. okay I didn’t look before I bookmarked. But I’m only at max chapter 7 starting this review.

FIRST OF ALL.

****SPOILER WARNING****

The men only SURVIVED the first strikes bc they were all at a PRIVATE KINK CLUB??? Plzzzz I know this isn’t supposed to be funny but I burst out laughing. I know it’s sad that their entire military base was demolished and civilization was obliterated but… THEY SURVIVED BC THEY WERE AT A KINK CLUB?! All of these KINKY MEN survived due to their KINKS. Okay, okay. Maybe it’s not that funny. I’ve made my first point and I’ll be back as I go along through the story. THUS far, it is SPECTACULAR.

Wait can you even edit a review after you’ve submitted it once?? I suppose we shall see.. (if this is all that is posted whilst you are going through reviews, I suppose we will have our answer.)

Great Narrator

I wanted to like this so much more. I loved the narrator. I liked the story, but I could not stand the constant sound, “Auck, Ahck.” And the “Oh, OH.” “No, no.” “Oh Gods.” It was just repeated way too much- to the point that I was rolling my eyes. The “Auck, Ahck” was honestly the worst- the Scottish accent by the narrator was great- but the author wrote it WAY too much. Like. As I’m writing this review, it’s been repeated EIGHT TIMES. EIGHT. I’m only like 30 percent into the book and it’s so hard not to be overly annoyed. NINE now. NINE. In the 15 SECONDS since I wrote that sentence. I cannot deal. Idk why I find it so annoying. Again, I love the narrator- he did a great job. The story has been alright thus far, and the portrayal of alcoholism in this book has been so great. Extremely accurate, especially the part where you’re trying to get sober. The delirium tremens, with the shaking, nausea, inability to sleep, the craving, the sweating and general illness. It is an illness. I may change my review as the book proceeds, but at the 30ish% mark, this is my POV.

PLOT/ CHARACTERS/ WORLD BUILDING

This was honestly so cool. I loved how the ML was able to be a strong male figure whilst also having a tender side where he shares his vulnerabilities with the FL. The FL is so refreshing. She’s not a whimpering/ cowering/ simpering or annoying woman. She’s also not annoyingly headstrong. Her character is believable and I love how straightforward the romance was. I also like the concept of their magic, and the settings. Def give this book a try!

Wow. What an interesting experience. I feel like I understand so much more about him now, and I love that we got to see so many things from his point of view. Part of his charm is his secrecy and mystery- but it’s also super interesting to see how he came to power. I had always wanted to know more about what happened with his early days- the gang, his powers, his mother… But honestly- his story was so heartbreaking. So much sorrow. But to see how he changes from not wanting a human mate to cherishing her.. I loved every minute of this. Highly recommend.

The BEST Book

I adored the whole series, but this one was absolutely my favorite. What an enchanting love story. Des has to be one of my favorite ML. He’s so patient, caring, snarky, supportive, and loving. Callie and her siren are also so much fun. The character growth for her, from book one to now is… Just so well written. From Laura’s rhymes to her imaginative depictions and lovely story telling.. I can’t wait to start a new series by her. How wonderful.
