Read the other book for therapist
Revisado: 11-28-24
This one is too hippy atheistic and if you’re sensitive to that, it will throw you off. The other book is more interesting and doesn’t throw most of the world’s cultures under the bus.

You may want to get the basics on Plato and Kant though. I had to listen to many of the lectures a couple times. I loved it !

A truly different kink of storytelling
Revisado: 06-21-24
I really liked the authors focus on the activities of the people they’re caring for, and how they affect the characters at the center. It isn’t the point of the book, but it’s like an alternate to character driven story telling and adds to the suspense.
Great twist!

Populist rage, ideological fracture, economic and technological shocks, geopolitical dangers, and an international system studded with catastrophic risk—the early decades of the 21st century may be one of the most revolutionary periods in modern history. But they are not the first. Humans have lived, and thrived, through more than one great realignment. What makes an age a revolutionary one? And how do they end?

Here are the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths, stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. The legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes life into ancient tales, from Pandora's box to Prometheus's fire, and transforms the adventures of Zeus and the Olympians into emotionally resonant and deeply funny stories, without losing any of their original wonder. Learned notes from the author offer rich cultural context. This volume is a doorway into a captivating world.

Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? In this elegant assessment of the human condition in the third millennium, cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, which play to our psychological biases. Instead, follow the data: Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise, not just in the West but worldwide.

A powerful argument, but one that many won’t read
Revisado: 02-20-21
This is a great book with formidable logic and data. But I’m afraid that many will ignore because of the strong atheism focus, and uncharitable characterization of people who don’t agree with the argument. A few snobby jokes about backwards people may have been funny, but will end up keeping this brilliant argument within the figurative choir.
I think we would all be better off if everyone read this though, and if you can let a few snide remarks by, you’ll definitely learn something.

An engaging mix of cutting edge research and fair-minded analysis, Divided We Fall is an unblinking look at the true dimensions and dangers of the widening ideological gap, and what could happen if we don't take steps toward bridging it. French reveals chilling, plausible scenarios of how the United States could fracture into regions that will not only weaken the country but destabilize the world.

Just listen to this book
Revisado: 09-29-20
Well written and the voice acted is fine. But more important, this is an important book. Lots of writers are publishing ideas about how to break free of our polarization trap. This book dose it without the usual sneering straw man analysis (I’m a little left and he’s clearly right, but I found his writing fair). Even if you disagree with the conclusion, the ideas along the way should be part of our national dialogue. If you’re politically minded, just listen to this book.
