Narrator for Morgan was a little stilted- not believable. Story raised some intriguing questions but the characters were hard to believe as well. Both boyfriends were saints with a LOT of patience.

The author created a determined character who turned homicide cop after losing her sister 25 years ago. I was sometimes taken aback at Lou’s dark humor and bounce back optimism in the face of circumstances in a current case that so closely paralleled that of her own sister. She was clearly coming to terms with the state of her marriage as well. Her banter felt a little light here. But I could also hear in her words “what other choice do I have other than to keep going?” Lou was also driven by guilt for failing to stay with her sister that fateful moment. This element was mentioned but not fully addressed or resolved. I liked her feminist take on the female characters being flawed but not blamed for being sexual, greedy, practical or imperfect humans. Overall, it was a good mystery with a great narrator.

This rollicking tale of unlikely allies who are pressed into rescuing a young scholar, engaged me fairly quickly. At the start it had the feel of a YA novel but the story quickly became more complex, thought provoking and fun. I liked the diversity of the characters and even the magic- the idea of a mystical bureaucracy of birds continues to make me smile. ! The narrator used a sarcastic tone to represent the main character which took some getting used to but I think it fits the character of Amina well. Listen for yourself!

Peter Grainger helped me recover from the loss of DC Smith by developing the familiar characters of Chris Waters and Serena Butler.
He also wove DC into the story in such a way as to offer support to the young detectives but it is clear that he has moved on and is happy. The procedural aspect of this story is detailed to be sure and depicts well how small steps lead to big discoveries. The supporting characters are also well defined and add to the atmosphere of tension and uncertainty that form the basis for many human interactions. Finally, this production succeeds on the back of the reader, Gildart Jackson, who brings the story and characters to life. Well told!

It’s not if this time but The unexpected Mrs. Polifax offers a break from today’s cynicism and “Ok Boomer” perspective that denigrates the older people in our society. Sure, she prevails because people take her age and gender for granted but still she prevails - and she does it by being herself.

I like John Grisham but this story is full of holes. Great idea for a book but not successfully executed. In trying to cover too much plot it tells too much and develops only a few of the characters. The obligatory sexual encounters seemed gratuitous. My favorite character did speak her mind and make me laugh but not enough to endorse this listen.

This very "male" story about war and soldiers and one infantry's experiences both in combat and in being home sheds light on several themes of war. The Bravo company comes home over Thanksgiving following a fierce battle in theater, to receive a heroes' welcome at a pro football game. The story surveys themes of war and its philosophical underpinnings: what is a hero? Can a soldier fit in to society upon return? Can civilians understand the cost of war? The best part of the story is its depiction of love and loyalty among the soldiers. But let me be clear: this story is funny, crude and full of rich description. It was a pleasure.

Does justice to untold details that paint a bigger picture of these historical periods. And so funny!

Sarah uses her casual informative style to open the windows and air out smaller details of presidents Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley. In so doing, it brings the events to life- I suddenly wasn't snoring over dry dates from a history text!

The villain was believable but the story required too much narration. It didn't reveal itself, the connections were lectured to the reader by ponderous characters such as the professor from Boston and, sadly even from the hero himself. Annoying.
