Wish someone had said cliffhanger

Strong characters. A bit Lisbeth Salander for the main character, tattooed, pierced, savant (albeit in a different field than Salander).
The literary references were interesting. I have read some reviews where the sentence diagraming is said to be unnecessary, I felt that it added to the depth of the story.
My biggest complaint is the three directional cliffhanger.
There was only one question asked in the story that was answered. Three huge, big, enormous and important questions were left on the table. I didn't realize until I looked down at the time counter and saw only six minutes left.
One cliffhanger, okay. I fully appreciate that writing is a job and that authors need to sell books. To string me along, allow me to become invested and leave that many cards on the table was shabby treatment of us, the readers.
Perhaps the author 'walked away' a bit to early.

I thought the narrator did a very good job, he had to have exceptional diction to narrate this book and I feel that he did it well.

I enjoyed this very much. I wanted to give a 4.5 stars for the performance, the narrator was very good, I was just thrown off by the change from the narration by Susan Duerden.

I wish I had not waited so long to listen to this. I am a big fan of The Rook and when I read reviews that complained about this novel, I put off reading it.

It was a good story, I say that in the truest sense of someone who likes a good story. Good characters, good story, well written. Did not get much sleep this weekend (kept hitting the just 1/2 hour more, then I will sleep...)

Those that enjoyed The Rook should enjoy this a great deal.

I originally got this as a free kindle book. I get many free kindle books, I don't expect as much from free books.

This one was a home run. It has become a favorite and has a great story. This author writes great characters and is hands down a good story teller. The best part is that it keeps getting better. There are three more books following and in each one the characters get stronger and the story builds and becomes more detailed.

The story feels very 'real' and I enjoy the jaunts off into history and other places that the story delves into.

I recommend this series very highly.

This was a fun story it was imaginative and laugh out loud in places. The characters were well done - depth, personality. The narration was top notch. I did have to double back a couple of times to stay straight in the story line, but I did not listen all at once.
For anyone who likes a fantastic adventure, or had somewhere in their past seen an episode of Fantasy Island - I'd say this was a solid win.
John Lutz should keep writing stories, I would definitely listen to another :)
One note, I will never to to another Happy Hour without thinking of this story!

I got a kick out of this story. I don't know how to review it without spoilers. Picked up a fair amount about art. I shall continue endeavor to continue to buy the pieces my modest budget can afford, but I will consider all that I learned.

** spoiler**

I really wonder what his art would have ended up being like. His talent was obvious, his ingenuity was clever like a fox.
What would his own art have been like, what would have happened if he had crossed the street and struck up a conversation with 'him'. I feel like it was a story where someone just started wandering down the wrong path.

I read this because a relative of mine was reading it and I wanted to be able to talk to him about it.

I am really glad I did. It was not a subject I usually spend much time on, but Mr. Iguodala's story from high school to the NBA was fascinating. I have seen him play, so that added another level of interest.
There were aspects about being an athlete at all levels I was completely ignorant about. He was positive about his experiences and the people he worked with. I liked that, it was classy.

So, if you want to wow someone with some deep sports background, well, this is the book for you. Also, I really enjoyed how much fun I had talking with my cousin about it.

This was an interesting subject. The story was told with verve and you could feel the author's 'hands on' with the subject. It just felt like it petered out in the end. I had questions left unanswered.
If the hottest chili isn't realllllly the hottest, then which is? I am so not interested in sampling Scotch Bonnets and Ghost Peppers. A nice Serano is about my limit. Still, the idea of creating the hottest pepper was a fun idea. The craze behind it - well - that was unexpected.
Definitely worth listening to, just wished there was a tad more data. Much like the wine tasting events...couldn't there be an international event for peppers? It would obviously have to be backed up by a toxicology lab, but it would be a treat.

I liked listening to it. I don't agree with some, I thought the narration was fine.
I believe I need to re listen to the story, I feel like I missed something that would pin it together.

The privacy bit though, really genius. Made me think of Max Headroom and people that were trying to erase their identity. Your data is valuable. The dialogue about privacy was especially well written...it is a huge part of my job, so well done Ms. Joelle.

This is a brave book. The writer taking his life in his hands to tell a story that would be difficult to tell from the inmates perspective.

I heard a man speak at a law school. He was a 'white collar criminal' of the low hanging fruit type. He saw what he thought was an opportunity and took it. He ended up with 18 months. Some of the things that Mr.. Bauer reports in his book are corroborated in the story I heard the WCC speak of.

A little police procedural.
A little bit of urban magic, just that dash that makes it believable.
A lot of great characters.
Lovely u-bend turns in the story!
A fat grey polka line between perception of good and evil; believers and fanatics, that open a huge double door into the philosophical questions of the ages. Kant and Hume would be able to argue for tomes about it :)
I have enjoyed this series very much. Lies Sleeping is definitely a standout in the series.
The Inspector does some really great magic, seriously! Would have given it 4 stars just for that..
There is a surprise for Molly.
Toby still wants a walk no matter how tired Peter is :)
And Mr. Holdbrook-Smith is as usual, fabulous!
