Mind Bending
Revisado: 04-06-24
This book is mind bending. It is philosophical, scientific, fantastical and incredibly imaginative. It becomes so many different things that all tie together to be something very recognizable. I wasn’t sure about it early on but definitely was drawn in the further I read.

Revisado: 11-30-23
For kids: 5 Stars (the demographic it was written for)
For Adults: 3.5 Stars
It’s silly, fast but still tackles some important subjects like race relations but does so in an age appropriate way.

Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Incredibly well thought out. The premise is interesting but the depth of the execution is what sets this apart.

Historia
Once, there were four worlds, nestled like pages in a book, each pulsing with fantastical power and connected by a single city: London. Until the magic grew too fast and forced the worlds to seal the doors between them in a desperate gamble to protect their own. The few magicians who could still open the doors grew more rare as time passed and now, only three Antari are known in recent memory—Kell Maresh of Red London, Delilah Bard of Grey London, and Holland Vosijk, of White London.

Best in the series!
Revisado: 10-09-23
I was blown away by this continuation of the Shades of Magic series. It was well paced, beautifully written, and intricately thought out. This was the most exciting entry thus far but also the deepest in terms of both story and character explanation. Each character had strengths and weakness and felt real in not only their descriptions but also their inner dialogue and actions. It provided interesting and distinct points of view. Full review coming soon on socials: FunreliableNarrator but in the meantime, SOLID 5 Stars!

Great thriller with an interesting and great characters
Revisado: 07-22-23
4.5 Stars rounded up for the quality of the writing. Highly recommended if you like historical fiction, spy thrillers, and strong female characters (chill “macho” guys, it’s just characters that are women, you’ll be fine) Extremely interesting thriller that is a little on the slower side but never gets boring. The back and forth between times and trying to figure out what happened to change so much in just a few years kept me interested and always had me wanting to read one more chapter. The characters are very well developed while the high stakes and interesting subject matter (breaking German codes during WWII) kept this at the thriller level even when there wasn’t as much “action” (pew pew) as is relied on in a lot of thrillers.

Wonderful start to a magic filled world/series
Revisado: 07-03-23
This was a wonderful start to a very interesting magical world! It’s magic system is unique and still being unraveled. The lore is interesting and relates to power from the celestials as well as Mother Earth. There is a ton of symbolism but it never feels like a specific point of view is crammed down your throat. The characters are interesting and each have their own tone and points of view but unlike some fantasy novels on this scale, there aren’t too many characters to keep track of. There are some hints of slow burn romance and the beginnings of a quest. All in all the only negative I can really give is I wished it hadn’t ended when it did. Things were really ramping up and definitely have me excited for the next entry to the series (which I’ve already preordered). This was definitely more of the intro to the world, Magic, lore, and characters and while it contains plenty of excitement, I can see the sequel being even more high octane while delving deeper into the secrets that have been teased but not completely answered. I’ll update this with a more complete review here and on my FunreliableNarrator socials via video but Five solid stars and I can’t wait to see where the story and characters find themselves in the future!

Raze is "just" a lowly Gearblin chained to the quest-giver desk at the worst (and only) arcade in town. And that’s a problem for her. It means that she’s a Non-Participating Citizen, someone who can’t see her stats nor make opposed rolls against Heroes. It’s why her life’s worth less than the vendor trash she doles out. The old-timers swear it didn’t used to be like this; their issues only began once RNGesus went AFK a thousand years ago, leaving the questionably blessed Heroes to conquer everything without consequence.

Meh
Revisado: 06-12-23
I like the genre but this wasn’t my favorite. If you like sexual innuendo jokes, “that’s what she said” and “your MOM ….” jokes over and over and over again this book is for you. I’m not sure how many times a person can laugh at the number 69 but it’s less than the number of times the author tries to get you to. The battle scene was cool and there was some fun DnD references. It weirdly took place in a DnD type world that also had Spotify, Alexa, and incognito mode.

Absolute nonsense
Revisado: 05-27-23
This author is either completely stupid or expects his readers to be. There’s no other way this gets written. But if you hate liberals and don’t care about context, this is for you (though I’d recommend a book written by an actual adult)
