Historia
It starts with a simple favor—an ordinary kindness mothers do for one another. When her best friend, Emily, asks Stephanie to pick up her son Nicky after school, she happily says yes. Nicky and her son, Miles, are classmates and best friends, and the five-year-olds love being together—just like she and Emily. A widow and stay-at-home mommy blogger living in woodsy suburban Connecticut, Stephanie was lonely until she met Emily, a sophisticated PR executive whose job in Manhattan demands so much of her time.

Skip the book, see the movie.
Revisado: 10-22-18
I struggled with this book. In fact, this is one of only a few instances where the movie was better than the book. The story is pretty light on suspense and did not keep my attention. The movie was the opposite. As a movie, they took a blah story and made it what it SHOULD have been. Weak comparison by others comparing it to "Gone Girl." In structure, sure, it is similar, but this book isn't anywhere near that caliber.

Historia
By all appearances, Kate Carmichael has the perfect life: two adorable daughters, a prewar townhouse on the Upper East Side, and a husband who runs one of the most successful publishing companies in New York. But when Kate attends a wedding and reconnects with successful friends from graduate school, she suddenly sees her life in a different light: the career she didn’t pursue, the dreams she’s locked away, the empty veneer of her privilege. When the wedding weekend ends, instead of heading home to her husband and family, Kate gets on a plane and flies halfway around the world.

Hastily written to capture the Younger TV audience
Revisado: 07-13-18
I struggled with this one. As a boom that came about because of a TV show, my expectations were pretty low.The editing and story felt half-hearted. It felt more like a rejected episode of the TV show "Younger" than the actual story that I thought would play out in this book. Skip it. There are better reads, and absolutely better narrations.

Heed the Reviews - Bad Book Ahead
Revisado: 06-25-18
Everyone raves about the devil wears Prada series, but this felt hollow and lazily edited. The story feels like something the Lifetime movie team passed on. The leading lady is given a tired stereotypical story arc. The first book in this series was better, a rare example of the movie being stronger than the book.

Jen NAILS It
Revisado: 05-14-18
Another terrific book from Jen Lancaster. If you are already acquainted with her books you will thoroughly enjoy this story. When it comes to the characters, the narration is a bit distracting from an otherwise fantastic book.

Claire Danes Shines
Revisado: 04-13-18
Would you listen to The Handmaid's Tale again? Why?
YES. Claire Danes did an incredible job narrating this book. Her emotions really came out as she read each character.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Handmaid's Tale?
Much like the main character, Claire Danes' performance evolved with the storyline and made it feel like you were going through the emotions with her.
What does Claire Danes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Emotion. Anger, frustration, fear, resistance. I felt all of it.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was, but I don't want to give it away for anyone who has not read this book.
Any additional comments?
I did read this BEFORE watching the acclaimed series, so I do not yet know how to compare them. I will say that Elisabeth Moss has incredibly large shoes to fill.
