Historia
Hank is a thug. He knows he's a thug. He has no problem with that realization. In his view the galaxy has given him a gift: a mutation that allows him to withstand great deals of physical trauma. He puts his abilities to the best use possible and that isn't by being a scientist. Besides, the space station Belvaille doesn't need scientists. It is not, generally, a thinking person's locale. It is the remotest habitation in the entire Colmarian Confederation. There is literally no reason to be there.

I thought it would be funny. There’s very little that’s funny. Is it drama? Hardly. Action? Kind of, but not great. It’s got no depth, or emotion. The writing is pretty bad and has a lot of holes, and the performance isn’t great because certain voices are hard to hear or understand.

There’s a lot of WHOA in here
Revisado: 06-12-23
This book is all over the place in a good way. Highly unpredictable, and very ridiculous. I gotta say, though, that’s a lot of Cal. A LOT. I love him, but I also want to punch him. And then he goes and does something awesome, and I forgive him. And then he makes a cheesy comment, and I go back to punching.

Boring and unconvincing
Revisado: 05-03-23
The book DRAGS. Nothing even happens in the first four hours. It’s full of talk that sounds philosophical, but upon closer examination is totally meaningless. Khaderbai was supposed to be this important mentor, but the foundation of the relationship was not convincing, and his talks about morality and such were senseless and empty. There were parts that I liked, and characters that I liked, but none of them make it worth 40 hours of listening.

Minor spoiler alerts, not great
Revisado: 03-22-23
Humor is subjective, so to help you understand why I didn’t find this book very funny, I have chosen a few examples that happened right at the beginning of the book, that don’t spoil the plot, that I didn’t like. The book has its moments. There were times that I laughed out loud. I like the three main characters a lot. So, at the start, there’s a scene where Sam is being bullied by a toxic boss who is trying to force him to work extra and punishing him for pushing back. Followed immediately by a scene where he has some painfully uncomfortable interactions with his ex wife and her boyfriend and his influence on Sam’s son’s life. Leading into a scene where Sam is having uncomfortable interactions with his son, tries to improve the moment, and ends up with his son in danger. And then you jump to a scene where you don’t initially know what’s going on, and it feels like it takes forever, with a bunch of not very interesting stuff taking up space, before you find out what’s really going on. Still gets a three, because there are a lot of redeeming and funny parts, but also a lot of parts that feel like missed opportunities.

Historia
The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

The chapter transitions
Revisado: 03-22-23
It was a great and interesting story, and the narrator did well; that’s not why I rated this a 1 on performance. It’s because each time the chapter changes, they play some piano notes that are extremely loud, with piercing high notes that startled the s**t out of me every time. I mean it. The notes are LOUD. Why did they make them so loud?!

Funny and creative
Revisado: 02-08-23
I love how the characters are so weird and random, and all have quirky personalities. And there are so many moments that are like, wait what? Where did that come from? Which I love. And yet, in spite of the large number of characters who have some surprising depth considering it’s not a very long book, it also manages to have a funny, weird, and weirdly clever plot.

The shocking fury continued with Petals on the Wind and If There be Thorns. Now V.C. Andrews has created the last dark chapter in the strange, chilling tale of passion and peril.

This book was annoying
Revisado: 11-14-22
The author seems ignorant of disability, and acts like getting paralyzed means no one will ever love you again. Bart is not a believable character at all. Cindy sounds more like a petulant Chile than a 16-18 year old. Seriously. She is so annoying. And the book leaves a bunch of loose ends. Also, Cathy collects dead family members like Pokémon.

Good climax/ending
Revisado: 07-21-22
I liked where the book went in the end, but I felt like it spent too long hinting that things were wrong while pretending things were ok. In other words, I thought the pacing was kind of slow.

Goes slow
Revisado: 10-15-21
There’s and extremely long and meandering chapter about her trip to Africa that isn’t very interesting and takes a very long time to get to the climax. I do like Maud, and it’s a happy ending, so that’s nice.
