This hit me as truly unnecessary and ultimately damaged my views of Edward's character. We aren't given enough new information to justify an entire book. Edward, we discover, is creepy and self absorbed. His constant whiney monologues are cringe worthy. The author offers a retelling of the first novel with only a few bits of insight about past events in Edward's life that don't do much to enhance what is already known. Waste of time for the author and the reader/listener. I'm glad I got it for free.

Ok book if you are a fan of the series.

I am glad that the author released this story after the main trilogy and not before. If this had been the opening act, I feel certain I wouldn't have bothered to read the next. Which would have been a tragedy because the Ashfall trilogy is a wonderful story, where in you really empathize with the characters and their struggles. I feel that Darla's Story doesn't add much to what we learn about her past in Ashfall. I would have preferred a novel that explores her future rather than a tiny snippet of time just before Ashfall begins.
