Historia
Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

Potential
Revisado: 07-04-16
The narrator does a decent job with the women. The voice never changes but the accent does at least. The men all sound the exact same and not very manly though. The plot premise is interesting. There are some funny pieces of dialogue. I dislike the rambling of the story at points and lots of random info that is unnecessary to the movement of the story. I'm growing increasingly frustrated with the amount of books recently that rely on the stupidity of the female lead to move the story forward. I really can't stand stupid characters.

Foolishness
Revisado: 07-03-16
Excellent narrator with impressive expressions. The story is well written with an interesting plot premise but I had to stop listening halfway through chapter 14. I just couldn't take the absolute brainlessness of the female lead any longer. As long as you don't mind brainless leads you should enjoy this story. I would have enjoyed it if not for her. I sort of wanted the French to assassinate her.

Deborah Harkness’s sparkling debut, A Discovery of Witches, has brought her into the spotlight and galvanized fans around the world. In this tale of passion and obsession, Diana Bishop, a young scholar and a descendant of witches, discovers a long-lost and enchanted alchemical manuscript, Ashmole 782, deep in Oxford's Bodleian Library. Its reappearance summons a fantastical underworld, which she navigates with her leading man, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont.

Good night reading
Revisado: 07-02-16
I had to return this partway through the 2nd chapter. It was putting me to sleep - literally, I'm not being cheeky. I was so bored with the incredibly long and overly explained everything that I no longer cared about the mythical things that may happen. I didn't know vampires and witches could be described so uninterestingly. The story itself it's probably a good one but I can't get past the dry telling of it.

She gets smarter...
Revisado: 07-02-16
The narrator did a good job with the accents I thought. Her men all sounded pretty much the same but at least they sounded believably like men. It was a decent narration. I liked the story idea but I really hated Sookie in this book which came as a shock to me. I've read several of the later Sookie novels but not this one. She was just TOO naive and brain dead in this one. So, on the whole, I was too frustrated to enjoy the story. I do recommend books 4 onward in this series. Not a fan of this one and haven't read 2 or 3.

Returned
Revisado: 06-25-16
To be fair to the story I will tell you that although I found the beginning to be slightly dull it was not so dull as to deserve to be returned outright. It may have progressed to that point later but I was unable to get past listening to the first couple chapters. So I rated the story a 3. I absolutely could not stand the narrator and that is why I returned before finishing. She did well enough with the females but the men were atrocious. As a romance novel part of the draw is falling a little in love with the main characters yourself. There was absolutely no way for me to do that as all the men sounded like women. The male leads voice was like nails on chalkboard. He made Bonnie Charlie from the show version of Outlander seem butch. Just the most sissy sounding pretentious jerk with a prostrate problem involving a stick. Maybe I will look for a paper version at a library and give it another chance. Definitely a big no on the audiobook.

Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Amazing narration! Honestly, the best I've yet to hear. I absolutely loved the voices she was able to do. The story was fabulous of course. Does anyone expect any less from Anne Rice?
