Hated nearly every minute of it.
Revisado: 03-11-11
I've read reviews from several sources and this seems to be one of those books with no middle ground - you either adore or abhor it. I fell to the latter. Couldn't stand the main character nor nearly any other character in the book. I thought the narrator did a tremendous job with the material he had to work with. Jones came through to be the only character that I could stand to listen to by the end of the book.

This book made me take a closer look at my life and make some necessary changes. Have already loaned it out to several friends and family and have purchased copies for far away family. This is a must read.

Splendid!

I loved this book of four generations of women. It was so well written that it was difficult to believe that the characters - especially Elize Makepeace - were not real!

Historia
When Elspeth Noblin dies of cancer, she leaves her London apartment to her twin nieces, Julia and Valentina. These two American girls never met their English aunt; they only knew that their mother, too, was a twin, and Elspeth her sister. Julia and Valentina are semi-normal American teenagers - with seemingly little interest in college, finding jobs, or anything outside their cozy home in the suburbs of Chicago, and with an abnormally intense attachment to one another.

Very Disappointing
Revisado: 10-28-09
I had such high hopes for this book after The Time Traveler's Wife. What a disappointment!! The entire book was, well, icky. At times I found it difficult to follow and at others I found it difficult to continue listening. It was just not a good read.

A little too graphic
Revisado: 09-24-09
I liked the continuing story of Tommo & Hawk. It literally picked up right where The Potato Factory left off. What I didn't care for was the very, very graphic descriptions of sexual acts. There is something just creepy about having the narrator voice both the male and female voices right down to the moans. Ick.

Historia
When Alexandra ("Bo") Fuller was home in Zambia a few years ago, visiting her parents for Christmas, she asked her father about a nearby banana farmer who was known for being a "tough bugger". Her father's response was a warning to steer clear of him; he told Bo: "Curiosity scribbled the cat." Nonetheless, Fuller began her strange friendship with the man she calls K, a white African and veteran of the Rhodesian war.

So what.
Revisado: 08-10-09
Parts of this book were very good. Others were painful. I just couldn't get past the author. She went to great lengths to get a story, but it really wasn't much of a story. I'd pass on this one.

Historia
For untold years, the perfectly preserved mummy had lain forgotten in the dusty basement of Boston’s Crispin Museum. Now its sudden rediscovery by museum staff is both a major coup and an attention-grabbing mystery. Dubbed “Madam X,” the mummy–to all appearances, an ancient Egyptian artifact–seems a ghoulish godsend for the financially struggling institution. But medical examiner Maura Isles soon discovers a macabre message hidden within the corpse–horrifying proof that this “centuries-old” relic is instead a modern-day murder victim.

It was okay
Revisado: 06-26-09
The storyline was OK, but the writing left a little to be desired. Used the same trite phrases over and over. I agree with the reviewer who said you would be rolling your eyes every few minutes. It was a decent listen, but nowhere near the top of my list.

What?!?
Revisado: 04-09-09
I have trudged through this entire volume spending much of the time trying to figure out if I was in the present or the past. There was often no pause at all when changing from time to time and I often found myself hitting the rewind button.
All of the narrator's 'American' voices sounded the same which made this further difficult to understand - especially when a character who had died had his voice resurrected in a new character. The worst part is that the story wasn't worth the time I spent trying to understand what was happening and to whom. Wish I had that credit back.

Strange Read
Revisado: 02-18-09
This book delved deeply into some areas that were just not engaging while leaving other more interesting aspects of the story virtually untouched. It left me rather dissatisfied with the entire book and wondering if I want to chance another Courtney book. However, the narrator is the absolute BEST and I've listened to more than 100 audiobooks.
