Historia
A haunting dream that will not relent pulls author Kent Nerburn back into the hidden world of Native America, where dreams have meaning, animals are teachers, and the "old ones" still have powers beyond our understanding. In this moving narrative, we travel through the lands of the Lakota and the Ojibwe, where we encounter a strange little girl with an unnerving connection to the past, a forgotten asylum that history has tried to hide, and complex, unforgettable characters.

Not what was expected.

Have not learned anything worth knowing from this book. Tried to actually finish it but, was unable to do so. Just decided to indicate that I completed it. Kept going back and trying to find something interesting in the book; found lots of anger, instead.

Was hoping for more wisdom but, it just wasn't spoken. Some of what I did hear was helpful but, most of what was said was just common knowledge.

Historia
Garrison Keillor's latest book is about the wedding of a girl named Dede Ingebretson, who comes home from California with a guy named Brent. Dede has made a fortune in veterinary aromatherapy; Brent bears a strong resemblance to a man wanted for extortion who's pictured on a poster in the town's post office. Then there's the memorial service for Dede's aunt Evelyn, who led a footloose and adventurous life after the death of her husband 17 years previously.

Started out good but, then....
Revisado: 11-06-21
Saying it's not for me means there was too much information of an intimate nature which surprised me for Keillor. I tried to like it hoping it would improve but, it just got worse. I was actually relieved when it ended.

The stories were dull. The voice used was good and I did fall asleep mostly from boredom. Would not recommend this book.

Historia
In That Time of Year, Garrison Keillor looks back on his life and recounts how a Brethren boy with writerly ambitions grew up in a small town on the Mississippi in the 1950s and, seeing three good friends die young, turned to comedy and radio. Through a series of unreasonable lucky breaks, he founded A Prairie Home Companion and put himself in line for a good life, including mistakes, regrets, and a few medical adventures.

Lots of interesting anecdotes. There are some things I rather would not know. Garrison Keillor is someone I have always enjoyed listening to because he really gives great, cleverly phrased detail.

Might be really good with lots of valuable info if it weren't for the fact that the narrator speaks with a constant sing-songy tone. Irritating.

Who doesn't love Keillor reciting anything?
Revisado: 03-05-21
Great book and so down to earth too. Love listening to mister Keillor and the way he casually talks about almost any subject. This is the kind of book that calls for a good cup of coffee (or tea) at the end of the day just to set things right and make it all peaceful again.

Whitley Strieber and Jeffrey J. Kripal team up on this unprecedented and intellectually vibrant new framing of inexplicable events and experiences. Rather than merely document the anomalous, these authors - one the man who popularized alien abduction and the other a renowned scholar - deliver a fast-paced and exhilarating study of why the supernatural is neither fantasy nor fiction but a vital and authentic aspect of life.
