Historia
Robert Caro's monumental book makes public what few outsiders knew: that Robert Moses was the single most powerful man of his time in the City and in the State of New York. And in telling the Moses story, Caro both opens up to an unprecedented degree the way in which politics really happens—the way things really get done in America's City Halls and Statehouses—and brings to light a bonanza of vital information about such national figures as Alfred E. Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt (and the genesis of their blood feud), about Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.

Depth and breadth, yet engaging read, even to non-resident of New York
Revisado: 05-19-24
Book's depth was superb. Author's ability to describe Moses from multitude of sides is extremely good, and sets a high bar.

Historia
When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

The book is so gripping, it is impossible to stop. Do read "Red Notice" first, though.

excellent overview + very contemporary
Revisado: 05-13-18
1. unlike some other great courses books, this book covered cases from as recent 2017.
2. Almost each lecture explained the larger-picture trade offs behind specific cases that a good judge must recognize.
3. the book made me want to read actual legal cases referenced (and I am not a lawyer).

Historia
Here for the first time, in rich human, political, and scientific detail, is the complete story of how the bomb was developed, from the turn-of-the-century discovery of the vast energy locked inside the atom to the dropping of the first bombs on Japan. Few great discoveries have evolved so swiftly - or have been so misunderstood. From the theoretical discussions of nuclear energy to the bright glare of Trinity, there was a span of hardly more than 25 years.

Contents is unbelievably good
Revisado: 07-22-16
The only negative was the narrator, who indeed mispronounced a few foreign names, but it didn't distract me from the book.
One important aspect of this book, which is often overlooked in books about science during wars, was really well covered. This aspect is the ability of humans to dehumanize opponents during the war, little by little, step after step, so as to end up **cheering** for 100s of thousands killed opponents, civilians or soldiers, adults or children.

This explosive new audiobook challenges many of the long-held assumptions about blacks, about Jews, about Germans and Nazis, about slavery, and about education. Plainly written, powerfully reasoned, and backed with a startling array of documented facts, Black Rednecks and White Liberals takes on the trendy intellectuals of our times as well as historic interpreters of American life.

Historia
This reissue of Thomas Sowell’s classic study of decision making, which includes a preface by the author, updates his seminal work in the context of The Vision of the Anointed. Sowell, one of America’s most celebrated public intellectuals, describes in concrete detail how knowledge is shared and disseminated throughout modern society. He warns that society suffers from an ever-widening gap between firsthand knowledge and decision making—a gap that threatens not only our economic and political efficiency but our very freedom.

Read at least first half
Revisado: 01-08-15
The most important and foundational of Sowell's book. The first part is superb, while the second is boring at times. I enjoyed second part too because it is 30 years old and gives contemporary account, which is different than reading history books now.

Revisado: 06-11-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, it's a good laugh.
Have you listened to any of Jon Stewart’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Very similar in style to the newer book of the same authors - A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race . Both give a good laugh.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh, surely, although the book is so close to reality that one may as well cry.
