Historia
Against the backdrop of worldwide, unexplainable natural disasters, Dr. Virginia Marilyn Edwards (Emmy Award-winner Kerry Washington) seeks out Agent Scott Thomas (Emmy Award-winner Laurence Fishburne) at a secretive government headquarters. Virginia claims these events are signs, and unless Agent Thomas helps her, she believes things will only get worse. Her desperation is dialed up higher with a shocking proclamation as she stands before him pregnant, weak, and weary: “Agent Thomas,” she says, “I believe I am Mary.”

Need 4 hours of my life back
Revisado: 08-13-22
The voice actors were fantastic. The '"story line" was weak and full of holes. Both author and editor didn't notice Psalm 23 is NOT the "Lord's prayer". There were no characters that I felt attached to and I kept waiting for the story to get better. It didn't.

Historia
The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass was Douglass' third autobiography. In it he was able to go into greater detail about his life as a slave and his escape from slavery, as he and his family were no longer in any danger from the reception of his work. In this engrossing narrative he recounts early years of abuse; his dramatic escape to the North and eventual freedom, abolitionist campaigns, and his crusade for full civil rights for former slaves.

Fascinating Life of FD + Chapter Titles
Revisado: 04-13-22
I listened to all three of the autobiographies of Frederick Douglass. The books are amazing accounts of his survival and his resolve to aid his fellow African Americans. "My Bondage and My Freedom" contains the same stories as "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass", plus more information.
The last bio "The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass" contains the same stories of BOTH books 1 and 2, plus more new information. If you had to pick just 1 bio to read, I recommend "The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass" because it contains information not included in books 1 & 2, including his meetings with President Abraham Lincoln, as well as a new update on the final fate of his grandmother. I am in awe of his brilliance and his faith in mankind, despite the hardships in his life.

Temple Grandin teaches listeners the science of the autistic brain, and with it the history and sociology of autism. By being autistic--by being able to look from the inside out and from the outside in--the author's insights are not just unique, they're groundbreaking. According to Temple, our understanding of autism has been perhaps fundamentally wrong for the past 70 years.

I love this book because it's helpful to have information about autism from an "insider's" view AND scientists/doctors. People that are differently abled are often marginalized and unheard. Ms. Grandin gives voice to those we cannot advocate for themselves.

Historia
This is a biography of James Baldwin, author, one-time preacher, and civil rights activist. He chose David Leeming, a close friend and colleague, to write his biography and granted him access to his correspondence. Leeming traces his life from his birth in Harlem in 1924 to his self-imposed exile in Europe, his later years as political activist, and his public funeral in 1987.

Portrait of a brilliant artist + Chapter titles
Revisado: 10-01-21
This is a wonderful biography that feels authentic and real. I really enjoyed learning about Baldwin's creative process and the inspirations for many of his works. However, I was underwhelmed by the narrator who read every line in the same tone and manner. There were barely any changes in nuance or cadence so whether it was a happy or sad scene, everything sounded the same. I think if the narrator was someone like Dion Graham, the book listening experience would be much improved.

Revisado: 09-08-21
The story opens with a mysterious homicide and goes off the rails with a nuclear threat and deadly cult. Is this a Kay Scarpetta OR Tom Clancy novel?! Please make a decision. The novel is all over the place and just falls off a cliff at the end. The "conclusion" was abrupt like Ms. Cornwell decided she didn't feel like writing any more and the "killer" is never clearly identified.

Expert Sherlockians Laurie King and Leslie Klinger put forth the question: What happens when great writers/creators who are not known as Sherlock Holmes devotees admit to being inspired by Conan Doyle stories? While some are highly regarded mystery writers, others are best known for their work in the fields of fantasy or science fiction. All of these talented authors, however, share a great admiration for Arthur Conan Doyle and his greatest creations, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

"Inspired" Sherlock Holmes + Chapter Titles
Revisado: 08-30-21
The "inspired" stories are a mixed bag, with some hits and some misses. I found the stories that actually had Sherlock Holmes as a character more interesting than the ones that did not.
The book cover references a PDF story but “Mrs. Hudson Investigates” by Tony Lee and Bevis Mussan is missing. Also, I wish Audible had some way of fixing books with missing chapter titles.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Why is this book SIXTEEN HOURS?!
Revisado: 08-24-21
This book could have easily been cut in half. I love Mark Twain but this book was not for me. There were many parts of the book that were repetitious or scenes that I feel did not add to the story of Joan. Parts of the book felt like ramblings and listening to it was tedious. This book is more of a novel for young adults vs. adults. The narrator was okay,
