***Possible spoiler alert***
The book dragged on. It felt like the plot was paused to allow focus of almost 22 hours around one night and how various characters experienced it. Very little around the looming war and the protagonist. Developments in the plot felt like they were an afterthought and the aim was just to stretch out the story so a fifth book could be written. I kept hoping something would happen but was so disappointed in the outcome.
Also, the words "thrall", "frisson" and a few others were overused which only made the story's repetitiveness that much worse.

Julia Whelan was, as always, absolutely brilliant and she was the only reason I got through the book.

I hope book five redeems the story but can't say I'm going to bed lining up for it.

I made it up to chapter 9 but just could not listen anymore. The story was not even beginning to develop because everything was about the attraction of the main male character to all the female characters, sex all the time, and his constant declarations to them about how beautiful they all are. If not for the graphic sex, this book would be for tweens. The narration was shaping up pretty well though; sadly it could not keep me interested.

This was not what I've come to expect from Nora Roberts. It felt like I was listening to three short stories which were trying to be connected.

The narrator, one of my favorites, was brilliant as always.

I hoped I would feel differently despite the reviews I read before deciding to give this book a go. Sadly, this was 19 hours of a previously fierce, determined, impressive and very likeable lead character now battling a cowardice like I have never seen. I understand that this was perhaps meant to be a building up to her complete embrace of her power, but "tears sting at my eyes" felt like the theme of this book and it made Elloren very unappealing. Where did the fierce, courageous and deeply caring young woman go?

While the overall storyline was fine enough, I cannot say I am inclined to get the next installment as I am honestly fearful that I will spend more hours of my life in a story that takes unnecessary hours to get somewhere.

The imagery was however superb and the narration was excellent; these are perhaps the only reasons I was able to listen to the entire book.

Unfortunate as I would have liked to see Elloren victorious in her battle; I will read the editor's summary instead.

I made it through half the book and the main characters still had not explored what being a shadow rider meant. Totally lost my interest after the neverending sex scene. Awful.
