Good introduction to these hoaxes
Revisado: 10-10-20
I thought this was a good introduction to several exploration hoaxes, only two of which I'd heard of before. It's great that the author mentions the titles of some other books that go into some of these hoaxes in greater detail in case one wants more extensive details.
The one issue I have is that the author twice stated that St. Paul, MN is located in Hennepin County. Having lived in St. Paul, MN, for 10 years, I can assure you that it is not in Hennepin County, but rather in Ramsey County.

Historia
The Last River: The Tragic Race for Shangri-la is a breathtaking account of the ill-fated October 1998 expedition of an American whitewater kayaking team who traveled deep into the Tsangpo Gorge in Tibet to run the Yarlung Tsangpo, known in paddling circles as the "Everest of rivers." For Wick Walker and Tom McEwan, extreme whitewater pioneers, best friends, and trip leaders, the Tsangpo adventure was the culmination of a twenty-five-year quest for glory. Yet the team's magnificent dreams crumbled when their ace paddler was swept over a thunderous eight-foot waterfall, never to be seen again.

Good adventure in an unexplored Himalayan River
Revisado: 10-03-20
I generally like reading books about mountain climbing in the Himalaya, but found this story about the Tsang-po River, which originates in the Himalaya, a fascinating addition to my knowledge of this region. The only complaint I have is that the narrator mispronounced locations, specifically Lhasa, which he pronounced "Hasa" throughout the book.

Kept my interest to the end - great story!
Revisado: 09-28-15
Would you listen to Big Little Lies again? Why?
Yes, I would listen again. The narration was great, the story interesting, and there were good resolutions to the stories of many of the main characters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
While I liked the main female characters all the way through the book, I was surprisingly pleased with the story arc of one of the minor characters. It was a nice change to have one of the antagonists realize she was in the wrong and apologize by the end of the book.
What does Caroline Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The Aussie accent - I wouldn't have been able to hear that all the way through if I were reading the book.

Disappointing . . . guessed the "twist" early on
Revisado: 09-28-15
Would you ever listen to anything by Tina Seskis again?
Probably not, since the twist that other reviewers said was such a surprise, was something I guessed within the first hour of the audiobook. Through the next several hours, I kept imaging other interesting / shocking things that could have been great twists, and was really disappointed when none of those happened. Also, the whole story was too depressing, which doesn't bode well for any of the author's other books, and several events in the story that could have been interesting, were too quickly glossed over. I certainly won't be rushing to check out her other works.
Any additional comments?
I often listen to audiobooks while driving, and this one was often hard to hear over the road noise even with the volume all the way up. I had to keep re-listening to sections when I wasn't driving - which I wouldn't have minded as much if it had been a better book. I haven't had this problem with other audiobooks I've gotten from Audible, so it's probably the volume leveling on this specific book.

Journalist Andy Hall, son of the park superintendent at the time, investigates the tragedy. He spent years tracking down survivors, lost documents, and recordings of radio communications. In Denali's Howl, Hall reveals the full story.

Choppy, annoying narration
Revisado: 04-17-15
The narration was awful. In too many sections he PAUSED . . . with emphasis on the last word of the PHRASE . . . for every PHRASE . . . over what must have been several PAGES. Sentences within the same paragraph were disjointed from each other because of these pauses, but then the topic/paragraph would completely change without an appropriately longer pause to distinguish this change. This made even the dramatic parts of the story choppy and hard to follow.
I would have preferred to read the print copy.
