No matter how many times you've read a story, when a production comes along with Peter Dinklage and an amazing ensemble, you give it a listen. This rendition does not disappoint and brings a much loved Agatha Christie classic, her first of many, to life! Well done all!

Third time through these amazing productions. Kudos to BBC Radio. Am I the only one who thinks we just don't have this level of audio production and stellar writing in the States? Not to mention the impeccable timing and delivery of the actors! Bill Night, Suzanne Burden and Jon Glover are THE thespian triumvirate!
Jeremy Front, Simon Brett, et al, please bring more of Charles Paris's delightful adventures across the pond!

The series would've been much better if it had ended at the last book. This one feels needlessly complex with the addition of a lot of grey along with the black and white. There are some decent bad guys introduced in this one but they never seem to be dealt with in a satisfactory way. I won't be buying the next one

Simply doesn't belong in the Spellmonger series. It may be appropriate for a children's book, if your kid is into boredom. An appalling lack of action and characters that you just can't warm up to. And the narrator has a hundred different pronunciations that deviate from the other books in the series. Are there no sound editors? Anyone ever listen to the other books before you let this reader go off half-cocked? But really, that's just the icing on the cake for this lackluster tale. If you like the other books in this series, give this one a pass.

Outstanding acting, atmospheric sounds effects and a retelling worthy of Conan Doyle himself. Well done Audible!

No unlikely heroes. No strong resourceful heroines. Just a bunch of scheming politicians (what has changed) and bumbling, irascible protagonists. I couldn't get myself to give a fig about what happened to them. But on the other hand the mystery was dull and plodding so there's that. Not even an excellent narration could save this story.

I suppose I've been spoiled by the BBC4 production of Sherlock Holmes with Clive Merrison/Andrew Sachs as Holmes/Watson in the Bert Coules productions of the venerable detective, but this actor who played Watson made this unlistenable. His lines were so stilted and his delivery was so campy that it brought down the entire production. It became so irritating that it became what I focused on instead of the otherwise stellar production. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Pretty sure most authors could write a story like this. Sure, some of the backstory was poignant but the gratuitous sex, rape and violence are merely thrown together in search of a meaningful tale. And you can almost feel when Fraser hits the writers block wall cuz time and again someone will show up throwing indiscriminate bullets around that remove the literary obstacles so the heroine can proceed. And he makes sure to check all the PC boxes- every single adult male character (except perhaps the gay one in the the end) is odious. Every one! And only sapphic love is meaningful. Truly cardboard characters that are paper thin. It just feels to me like Fraser is desperately trying to divorce himself from the clean-cut image of his signature character. It's a shame because I feel like he has the chops to do that without churning out a nihilistic gutter tale.

The story was well conceived and very creative but, call me crazy, a hard boiled detective shouldn't sound like his prepubescent little sister. It's not that the narrator couldn't do deeper voices but clearly chose not to. Haven't read the Kindle version first I was anticipating a gravelly, tough-guy voice. Disconcerting and disappointing to listen to him speak. Also, if you're a narrator and it's your craft, try to learn as many words as you can. And if you come across one you're unsure of (imperilously is not a word in English, imperiously is) don't just breeze through it like you know what you're reading. Ask the Googs, or your sound editor. (No one ever said I wasn't petty.)
