As with the first four editions of the Glen & Tyler series, Saratoga Trunk is a completely enjoyable listen from beginning to end. This one will land in my top three favorite novels of the year. Highly recommended.

I'd exhaust my list of superlatives in describing this "talking history" of America during WWII. Even if you think you don't like history (those of you who don't, it's why we keep making the same stupid mistakes; Vietnam, Afghanistan etcetera, etcetera) I'd bet you'd like this audiobook. Highly recommended!

There are so many things about this novel that made me love it. First, it is indeed a saga; the audiobook runs for slightly over twenty-one hours without a dull moment. Next, the author’s strong, fully-developed characters, and direct, honest narrative make this a powerful, unforgettable story about post WWII Ireland. Another interesting aspect is the story unfolds in seven-year increments; e.g., 1945 to 1952 to 1959, etc. (I’ve my thoughts on why the author did this, but I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.)

I purchase three to five MM audiobooks monthly, and I’ve grown tired of the same ol’ same ol’ poorly edited, unimaginative, predictable gay romance tales that are dumped into the MM market by the truckload. The Heart’s Invisible Furies is tagged as contemporary fiction. I expected a mainstream novel. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that several characters as well as the MC, Cyril, are gay. It’s about time that MM fiction doesn’t include a “Gay or LGBTQ” warning label. The love scenes are behind closed doors; i.e., this is not MM erotica.

The summary tells you all you need to know about the plot, and I’ll not provide spoilers by giving you my synopsis of this beautifully written work of literary genius. The narration is fabulous from beginning to end. The characters, plot and subplots will capture your attention and keep you listening. A Heart’s Invisible Furies will make you smile, laugh, and weep; the dogma priests inflicted upon the Irish will disgust you.

The novel has a bittersweet but heartwarming conclusion. I know, I know … such sounds unlikely, but the author pulls it off magnificently.

The Heart’s Invisible Furies will go down as one of my all-time favorite novels, and has earned a permanent spot in my iPod so I can listen to it again, and again, and again. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting an MM saga that breaks away from the angst-ridden romantic canons of MM fiction; hey, gay couples are more than just the bedroom. Bravo John Boyne!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The narrator's performance was blasé at best.

What could Caroline Kepnes have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

She could've tried to make the main characters just a little likable. Both of the MC's were too odd for words, and therefore unbelievable. My greatest problem with this novel was it's predictability; I knew about a quarter of the way through the book that the main male character was going to kill both of the main female character's boyfriends, and then the main male character would kill the main female character. A better ending would've eliminated both of them.

Would you be willing to try another one of Santino Fontana’s performances?

No.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from You?

The ridiculous scenes set in the "cage" in the bookstore's basement.

Any additional comments?

This was an Audible "editor's choice" selection? Maybe the editors' rejects might give listeners better selections.

What made the experience of listening to Housekeeping the most enjoyable?

The non schmyrpy writing--clear, clean and quick.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoyed all the characters in this story, with the exception of that "ass-face" Tom.

What does K.C. Kelly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A wonderful voice and great oral interpretations.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Better than a Dyson!

Any additional comments?

"Housekeeping" will be one of my favorite novels of 2014. Highly recommended listening/reading.

What made the experience of listening to Take the most enjoyable?

Several things: the writing, the story, the narration, and the characters.

What other book might you compare Take to and why?

Lee James' "Errors and Omissions: both are on the noir side, both have handsome, hot and randy main characters who are wrestling with relationships, and both have villains whom you love to hate. Last but certainly not least, both novels are compelling and incredibly well-written.

Have you listened to any of Shannon Gunn’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Shannon Gunn has a voice that's perfect for this series. He makes the characters come to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Tate's comebacks to Logan's smart-assed comments and arrogance always made me laugh. I got a little verklempt when Tate's blue-collar parents disowned him after he outed himself. The return of Logan's ex BF and the climax had me on the edge of my seat.

Any additional comments?

"Take" is an outstanding follow-up to "Try." Do not miss this series!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely.

What other book might you compare Boystown 6: From The Ashes to and why?

Marshall Thornton's Boystown novels are all noir, much like Lee James' "Errors and Omissions."

Which character – as performed by Brad Langer – was your favorite?

In all six novels of the Boystown series, Nick Nowak is my favorite. He's hot, horny, ruggedly handsome, hilariously sarcastic...and did I mention brilliant?

Who was the most memorable character of Boystown 6: From The Ashes and why?

Nick Nowak. Believe I covered the "why" above.

Any additional comments?

Listen to all six novels in the Boystown series.

Would you try another book from John Inman and/or Tyler Stevens?

Yes.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting was the colorful supporting characters, and the humor. The least interesting was the main character, Stanley. His angst had him coming across as too stupid to live.

What about Tyler Stevens’s performance did you like?

You always knew which character was speaking without tag lines.

Do you think Serenading Stanley needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Maybe, but with a different publisher. This could have been a five star novel across the board; doubtless, some readers enjoy angst-ridden tales, but I do not. Maybe Dreamspinner Press needs to do some housecleaning within its editorial staff.

Any additional comments?

No.

What made the experience of listening to Try the most enjoyable?

The plot, the characters, the love scenes (kowabunga), and the narration.

What did you like best about this story?

Without a doubt, the two main characters: one of whom is a drop-dead gorgeous and "out" lawyer/partner of a prestigious firm, and the other a "straight," drop-dead gorgeous bartender wrestling with his deeply closeted homosexuality. (Contrary to some beliefs, you do not get up one morning and decide you're switching teams.) And the erotica will have you fanning yourself or spanking something...

Which character – as performed by Shannon Gunn – was your favorite?

Both the main characters.

Who was the most memorable character of Try and why?

Again, the two MCs. Their dialogues, anger, arrogance, frustrations and the love that slowly grabs both of them by their balls makes this a memorable listen.

Highly recommended!

What did you like best about I Can See for Miles? What did you like least?

Most liked: pity wasn't part of the overall picture. I least liked some of the terminology and practices; e.g., "stick," when "cane," should've been used, and assisting the main character by grabbing his arm/elbow. Most blind people, myself included, abhor being guided that way. Simple physics: when I take your arm, I'm following a half step behind you, but when you take my arm, you're pushing me a half step in front of you. Do you see the problem with that?

If you’ve listened to books by Lisa Worrall before, how does this one compare?

N/A

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

For the most part.

Could you see I Can See for Miles being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

Any additional comments?

There are other authors; Andrew Grey being a prime example; who aren't fully familiar with disabilities, and misinform rather than educate non disabled readers. Write what you know, and not what you think you know!
