Enjoyable Listen for Lovers of the Princess Bride
Revisado: 02-04-22
I, like so many, grew up watching the Princess Bride with my family and it has always been one of our favorites. This book was such a pleasure to listen to the tales of behind the scenes. It's so fun to hear that those who made it enjoyed it just as much or more as we do watching it.
I would highly suggest listening to this as opposed to reading a physical copy, it's so delightful to hear the words from the people themselves.

Enjoyable Story, Takes off in Second Half
Revisado: 01-28-22
I'll do my best to be descriptive and not give any spoilers!
I'm not going to lie, the first 1/3 of the book wasn't holding my interest. There was a lot of factual world building that was a lot to take in, and there wasn't much indication of where the story was going - I love world building, but character development is my real jam, so world building sans character development is difficult for me. Once the main character Pent meets the other main characters, though, the story started to gain my interest and I thoroughly enjoyed the second half of the book. I'd be interested in reading a follow up story about the characters!
There is a warning at the beginning of the audio book, but if mention of intense calorie counting is triggering, you should definitely steer clear. The mentions aren't super detailed or for weight loss purposes, just mentioned frequently in the first 1/3 of the book as it's required for the lengthy voyages the ship takes and doling out the available nutrition is part of Pent's job. It is mentioned during the rest of the book, but a lot more rarely and even more vaguely than before.
I thought the way the story resolved was interesting and a bit unique, I was pleased!
I really liked the combination of ether and science fiction, the world is an interesting one for sure!
The writing is very straightforward so I think the audience could be as young as 12, but there are some more adult concepts - pregnancy and choosing what children are worth while for the ship, and a lot of emotional abuse by Pent's family, so it depends on the young adult whether it is an appropriate read. (I should mention that I'm an adult in my 30's.)
As for the audiobook reader Ashley Eckstein, I'm a huge fan, so I'm probably pretty biased, but I loved her reading the story. She has a fairly young voice, but it fits the characters so well.

Great Prequel of President Snows Backstory
Revisado: 08-18-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this journey - made all the more enjoyable by knowing where Snow ends up. I was amazed by how likable Suzanne was able to make a young Coriolanus - right up until he embraces the villain we all know and love to hate. Definitely worth the read if you are a fan of the series or if you enjoy a jaunt through the mind of a narcissist.

Historia
Lark Rise is Flora Thompson's childhood memories of a north Oxfordshire village, the people who lived and worked in it, and a way of life that has totally disappeared. The story is built around Laura and her brother Edmund, through whose eyes are seen 'old Sally', whose grandfather built the house she lived in before the enclosure of the heathland, children's games, the interaction of village and gentry, and the way in which the seasons governed life.

Interesting Historical Information, No Story Line
Revisado: 10-17-19
If you are looking for a book that goes into the daily ins and outs of life in the 1800's, this is exactly what you are looking for. There was a lot of really interesting information, but it is by no means a story or even history of Flora's life. The information is mostly observations of life growing up in a small town and an occasional story from Flora's childhood. If you were a fan of the Lark Rise to Candleford television series, you will be surprised at the lack of a story line, but will hear an occasional name that you recognize from the show. Karen Cass was excellent and made it much easier to listen to than I would have expected this information to be. Overall, I did enjoy the experience, it just was not at all what I was expecting.

Love the whole production!
Revisado: 06-18-19
I am a huge fan of the dry British sense of humor, and this book is absolutely hilarious. Stephen Fry is the perfect choice to read this book and certainly brings a lot to the production. If you take things very seriously and are easily offended, I would not suggest listening/reading as Adams makes fun of most viewpoints.

Okay story, Great Vocals
Revisado: 05-31-19
Janina Edwards' voice was perfect for this story and she did a phenomenal job. I was not enthralled by the story and because of that I would space out while listening and was just generally unimpressed with the story. I think it was good for a short story, but I would have enjoyed more depth of the world and a deeper explanation of their society/culture.

Sweet depiction of Marie's early life
Revisado: 03-06-19
I wasn't quite expecting this to be centered around her meeting Pierre, so that was a bit of an adjustment as I was listening to this. I think it is a cute short story of how she came to partner with her husband. This definitely made me want to seek out a more detailed history of Marie's life.
