It was an ending
Revisado: 03-15-25
This was the ending to the series, and if there is one reason to be thankful it's because we don't have to worry about the series going unfinished.
Some plot points were wrapped up in a way much like life, randomly and without much depth. So very realistic in that way. I guess there are some unknowns still, but we don't have to worry about them because our protagonist's story is now over. Without much meaning, but not every person's life has meaning so it's very realistic in that way.

I am not smart enough for this book
Revisado: 01-10-25
This was the kind of book where the story jumps between multiple times frames (long past, medium past, near past, current, there may have been future because of plot reasons?). For me it was a real burden to understand in audible format. Maybe it would have been better if I just read the text. Maybe you will not have this problem, but for me at least books that are as chaotic as this one only work in text form. Wish I knew it before starting this one.

Historia
Petra Grady has known since adolescence that she has no talent for magic—and that’s never going to change. But as a sweeper first-class, she’s parlayed her rare ability to handle dross—the damaging, magical waste generated by her more talented kin’s spellwork—into a decent life working at the mages’ university. Except Grady’s relatively predictable life is about to be upended.

obtuse protagonist
Revisado: 09-12-24
This was an interesting story but I think the execution could have been better. I was frustrated by the fights between the "friend" and the protagonist because I like characters who don't simply accept abuse and come back for more.
I'm also not sure of a different narrator could have made the audio version of this story more engaging. Their voice was clear and I think I only heard one weird (to me) pronunciation, but it just didn't work for me.

Really fun
Revisado: 05-24-24
I enjoy all the characters and the world that exists in this book. Two big thumbs up for everything.
I mean if you're here on the 3rd book in the series I don't honestly know what else you want me to say. It's the same characters we've seen in books 1 and 2, plus some new ones that I don't want to spoil. Then there's what happens at the end which really sets us up for book 4.
I guess the biggest thing that I anticipated happening at the start of the book did not happen there. Then there was action and drama.

really confused about the MC age
Revisado: 08-16-23
I can't say that I've enjoyed anything I've heard in this book so far... however the worst thing seems to be I don't know how old our MC is... either they are 16+ per chapter 4 where people that agr or older are drafted into the army or the MC is 11 because that's the age called out in the ritual where the overpowered organization he's being made a champion of says he's 11 and has to make a special commendation for him.

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Needed an editor
Revisado: 06-18-23
I am hardly 7 chapters in and I've already heard several instances of continuity errors repeated actions, and generally odd phrases. I am also worried that this is going to be a book that focuses on the power trip of the main character seeing as the immediate set up is that they save no one, lead no one, care for no one, and are generally a narcissistic jerk.

Magic can’t be real, right? Tell that to the werewolf glaring at me with his near-black eyes or the handsome vampire lounging in the corner. Did I enjoy growing up rejected by everyone I encountered because of my physical abnormalities? Hell no! The only thing I ever wanted was to be accepted by someone. Not everyone, just anyone. A normal job and one solid meal a day would’ve been nice too.

Like Annette Marie?
Revisado: 03-20-23
Not at all like Annette Marie. I really couldn't get past the first hour(s?) of this book as I really just didn't like the MC at all. The main protagonist isn't just an average every day girl who happy to be associated with a magical world within our own. She's apparently got some curse on her which makes her ugly, and soon has a questionable man thirsting after her and a newly discovered family member who is making her life a living heck... All in all I can't relate to a character who has no self empowerment nor any desire to make her world better. Every possible change has to due with luck and because someone is taking a pity on her. I honestly can't go on.

Unlikeable
Revisado: 02-13-23
This title didn't meet my preference for stories with deep characters, interesting worlds, or developed plots. I could only think "this is a boring version of that show sliders from the 1990s". The character Max is portrayed as someone who doesn't have any self determination or positive character traits. As there are no alternate characters which appear to be central to the story I can't see myself spending any further time with this content.

Historia
Max Remus couldn't care less about finding his mate—unlike the rest of his fate-obsessed pack. He totally prefers hanging with his bestie, eating his dad's steak sandwiches, and drawing in his trusty sketchbook. But all that is about to change at the Blue Moon Festival—a summer camp where Elite Pack wolves go to find their mates. The festival is a rite of passage for every teen werewolf, and this year's festival will be one to howl home about. The alpha's son, Jasper Apollo, is attending for the first time.

The characters aren't really gay?
Revisado: 06-14-22
Ok, so... I don't understand this book. When I first started on this book I thought that Max was just a shy gay boy who didn't want to tell his parents he was gay. However, we later learn that 1. Max never and in no way self-identifies as gay and 2. werewolves just aren't gay this world.
Special callout to Max's female best friend who seemed like she was going to be a girl-with-gay-best-friend trope, but turns out she was clearly never his confidant which made the friendship between the two superficial and pointless. That she was basically dropped half way into the book felt like a relief because she never made for a good foil for Max to express himself with. So... What was the point of adding her? Maybe to show the whole side story for her character? Also what is with that side story? It was not good.
Let's also talk about the voice acting. I'm sorry to say that the voice actor here made the female characters come across as emotionless zombies who only spoke in monotone. To me it seemed like there were many conversations where a female character was using phrases that expressed cheerful pep, but due to the delivery I had to question what I had heard.
I do want to call out that there were a lot of good ideas here. There was just an issue with the execution as all of the characters came off as inauthentic which is odd given that the author and their publishing company appears to be focused on LGBTQIA+ story telling. So how does this even happen?
