Despite having a worthwhile message and an intriguing premise, the execution of this book is childish and all of the characters are either unidentifiable or unlikeable, except Harry. The bombshell that Monique will want to kill Evelyn by the time it's over is not born out by the reason, shich is obvious to the reader from the moment the character of Harry lover enters.

This book is so beautifully written and so full of truth and insight into the growing mind of a child with autism. It provides hope for ne sympathy for parents in similar situations coping with relationships with children they love intensely yet sometimes fail to understand. It offers necessary lessons for how to use the self-directed interests of people with autism to connect with and guide them and foster genuine respect for who they are. This would also be a great read for anyone unconnected with autism, but for me as the mom of a child with autism, it was powerfully moving.

In contrast to his other wonderful books, this one has few new insights, it relies heavily on anecdotal evidence, and it belabors its points. The religion chapter is interesting. The narrator’s voice is boring as well.

This is an amazing work that skillfully weaves Native folktales, modern ecological science, and personal philosophy in an inspiring work of astonishing beauty.

The prose is beautiful and the story engaging, but the themes are sort of cracked over your head in the end. The performance was a little cheesy sometimes, but with such a variety of characters maybe it was necessary to distinguish them all.

This was a book about the author learning about Lacks, not about Lacks and definitely not about the science of the actual cell line.

I thought I was buying a biography. I learned some things, but overall I wanted to know a lot more about Ida B Wells, and less about the author's opinions.
