Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Long, drawn out, and Boring
Revisado: 07-02-19
I couldn't get past the history lesson. This book had such good reviews I wanted to wait it out for the story to get better. Unfortunately the history lesson of it all was long and drawn out. Way too many details about stuff that doesn't even pertain to the story. She was trying to give us a good picture in our minds, but she crossed over from descriptive to annoying. She mentions so many different people it is easy to get lost on what she is trying to convey.
Then there is the incest-it gives us warning of it, but she goes into detail about the love affairs of father and daughter almost as if we are supposed to enjoy it instead of see it for what it is-gross and disturbing.
I couldn't finish it to say if it had a good ending, but have read reviews saying many were disappointed by the abrupt 'non-ending'.

Grips you from the beginning
Revisado: 03-26-19
Author brings you to the edge of your seat right from the beginning, and leaves you there the whole time! You might think it is slightly predictable at times, but then she takes you in a whole new direction. I agree with other readers that this should have a warning, it has EXTREMELY graphic content. I think it adds to the story, and think the author did a great job with her descriptions. Narrator was fantastic!

Historia
Eden was always good at being good. Starting high school didn’t change who she was. But the night her brother’s best friend rapes her, Eden’s world capsizes. What was once simple, is now complex. What Eden once loved—who she once loved—she now hates. What she thought she knew to be true, is now lies. Nothing makes sense anymore, and she knows she’s supposed to tell someone what happened but she can’t. So she buries it instead. And she buries the way she used to be.

Heart Wrenching
Revisado: 09-28-18
Amazing story of one young woman's ability or non-existent ability to cope with being raped and keeping silent. So on point and very in tune with what is happening in the world today. Heart wrenching when she finally does open up and tell someone. You will definitely shed some tears! Well worth the credit, it is a book that will keep you thinking! Narrator does an amazing job, it is well written, but the ending is abrupt. I would have liked to hear more on her life after she finally opens up.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 08-07-18
Great story line, and keeps you interested right from page one. You can feel the emotion of his mother passing, and how her spirit stays with him, through the "messengers". Some parts gave me goosebumps! Narration was so easy to listen to, absolutely loved the whole thing. Great writing!
