Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

It was too preteen for me
Revisado: 07-27-21
The storytelling was fine. I liked the elements. I like a lot of YA books but this must be for preteens. It was also slow to get to the basis of the story, I'm not sure I got there after 4 of 9 hours of the book.

Historia
Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

Stars slow but goes to can't put it down
Revisado: 03-07-20
Disclosure, Scott Sigler is one of my favorite authors. No spoilers.
This is the first Aliens story I've read although I've seen all the movies. As I mentioned in the title it starts a little slow but that is because there is a lot of background necessary for the characters and their culture. Once it gets to the main story it is full speed ahead.
Scott's forte is putting real science into his stories, he has a who set of experts who read his drafts for technical plausibility.
It is a very different type of story than any of the movies. The ending is very satisfying, with no cliffhangers. I loved it.

McGill, the main character, is the bomb
Revisado: 07-23-17
If you could sum up Home World in three words, what would they be?
McGill wins again
What did you like best about this story?
McGill is a great character and the narrator is awesome, great job doing different voices.
Have you listened to any of Mark Boyett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes I have heard Mark Boyett before and this matches his other excellent performances.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It's got some laughs, but it is not comedy
Any additional comments?
Think of the series like a TV serial. This is episode 5. Good SciFi, new enemy. But the stories are really all about McGill, who is an interesting character

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Just wait until you meet Skippy
Revisado: 12-28-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes.
What did you like best about this story?
It starts out as a good story, then it goes to great. It is written in first person. It goes from good to great at chapter 10 when, in addition to being solid hard sci-fi, it becomes roll in the aisle comedic. Not contrived or silly comedy (think "Trouble with Tribbles", more like Bones "I'm just a country doctor". I'm probably doing a horrible job explaining this but I don't want to give anything away
What about R.C. Bray’s performance did you like?
He does great voice work.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not at the beginning but it picks up a LOT at chapter 10. After that I couldn't stop listening, I stayed up way past my bed time.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Funny and serious
Revisado: 10-18-15
Where does Old Man's War rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It is in the upper 1/2 of books I've listened too. It didn't stretch my mind like "Calculating God". It is an easy read that has some real humor in it, but not too much just some accents.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The drill Sargent, he was classic.
Which scene was your favorite?
When the drill Sargent thanks John Perry and then tells him what he is going to do to make his live miserable.

The story was tired, boy meets girl, boy losses girl, boy gets girl back. Same old, same old.
The accents were difficult to understand, however, it was a good cultural glance at a different culture.
